In my younger and more vulnerable years, my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since.
Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 194 comments Oh wow Linda and Melliott--that's really great. I think most of us remember the first lines of those 2, even if we've never read any more of them than that. Ok, I admit, I've read them, but I am also sure there are those out there who haven't, but who have seen the various movies and TV shows based on them. It's kind of like Romeo and Juliet. Everyone remembers the opening of that. And, everyone remembers the balcony scene. There are just some books that even people who haven't read them know and recognize the opening lines of. (A Christmas Carol anyone? That's one that even people who haven't read can quote entire huge segments of.)

Oh, yeah, and the biggest one that everyone knows the beginning of: In the Beginning . . . .

"When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house I had two things on my mind-Paul Newman and a ride home. I kinda wish I looked like Paul Newman. He looks tough and I don't, but I guess my own looks aren't so bad. I have reddish brown hair and gray-green eyes. I wish they were more gray because I hate most guys who have green eyes."
