So as you all probably know you must answer a riddle to be let into the Ravenclaw Common room so I thought it would be fun to post some riddles here and see if anyone can guess the correct answer!

message 2: by (new)

ooooh cool!

Mod
When is 99 more than 100? Ask for answer if needed! No cheating...

message 4: by (new)

When it's in negatives?

message 5: by Tyler, Ravenclaw Mod (new)

Mod
Nope, that’s a pretty good guess though.

message 6: by (new)

umm I don't know. I'm not a true Ravenclaw, I cry.

message 7: by (new)

In temperatures?

message 8: by Tyler, Ravenclaw Mod (new)

Mod
Still guessing! You all have had great answers, but keep on guessing.

message 9: by (new)

In time?

message 10: by Tyler, Ravenclaw Mod (new)

Mod
On a microwave. 99 means 1:39 seconds, whereas 100 means one minute.

message 11: by (new)

ohhhh

message 12: by (new)

lol didn't think of that

message 13: by (new)

It's shorter than the rest, but when you're happy, you raise it up like it's the best. What is it?

message 14: by (new)

A thumbs up?

message 15: by (new)

RIGHT 😄👍🏻

message 16: by (new)

yaaaaay

message 17: by (new)

What five letter word becomes shorter when you add two letters to it? 😊🤔

message 18: by (new)

oooooh, I've heard this one before!

message 19: by (new)

Shorter ?

message 20: by Grace , Head Mod (new)

Mod
Short

message 21: by (new)

Yup😁

message 22: by (new)

11 take away 1 is equal to 10.
But 9 take away 1 is also equal to 10.
How is this possible? 🤓🤔

message 23: by Tyler, Ravenclaw Mod (new)

Mod
Could it be that 9 happens to be a negative number? So, -9-1=-10?

message 24: by (new)

Oh sherbet!
So so sorry!
Ummm.... not a bad thought, but unfortunately that is not the correct answer.
If you'd like a hint, let me know.

(11) base 10 -(1) base 10= 1*10^1+ 1*10^0-1*10^0=11-1=10

(9) base 10-(1) base 10= 8=> 10 base 8=1*8^1+0*8^0=8

message 26: by (new)

Nope.
But wow, that is some deep thinking.

message 27: by (new)

it is possible in roman numbers;
XI (take away the I and it will become X//ten)
IX (take away the I and it will also become X)

message 28: by (new)

And we have a winner! :D

message 29: by (new)

Wow!! Great thinking ...

message 30: by (new)

Mod
On of the most famous riddels...Why is a Raven like a Writing desk?

message 34: by Tyler, Ravenclaw Mod (new)

Mod
“Because it can produce a few notes, though they are very flat; and it is never put with the wrong end in front! The early issues of the revision spell "never" as "nevar", ie "raven" with the wrong end in front.”
Lewis Carroll describe it that way. I’m using a direct quote from the author.

Yep! Another acceptable answer would have been that they both have "legs" and "feet".
