Tina Morrow | 7 comments This book starts out with a baby was kidnapped from the house of a young couple. During the investigation, a mummified baby was found, opening a decades old mystery.

The investigation into the mummified baby goes back some 40 years or so. A young wife began an affair with a visiting artist and becomes pregnant. Her husband kicks her out and her lover leaves her. She stays in the home of the artist colony leader, on the beach, and has her baby all alone. Come to find out, she has twins, a boy and a girl. Her estranged husband comes out to check on her and finds out she had the baby(babies). They argue and struggled with holding the boy. The husband overpowers his wife and jerks the boy away from his mother. In doing do, the boy's head hits the door and he is killed. The mother naturally has a nervous breakdown and begins acting really crazy.

I very much enjoyed this book and would like to get it again. My stepmother gave me this book thinking I'd enjoy it even though I don't normally read mysteries or suspense novels. Please help!

Tina, please add some plot details to your header, since hundreds of members are looking for mystery books. Your thread needs to stand out.

As you saw in the Group Rules popup box when you posted, we also need to know when you read the book, or when it was published.

Tina Morrow | 7 comments Lobstergirl, that popup box never showed up when I posted this, probably because I was on my phone.

I added plot details to the topic header. Feel free to edit it using the desktop website, not the mobile app.

Kelly (khek) | 270 comments I feel like I read something similar happening in either one of the Mary Monica Pulver's Peter Brichter series, or Carolyn Hart's Death on Demand series.

Always add any new details to your original thread. Don't create a new thread.

I'm deleting your duplicate thread.

This is what you posted:

"This book starts out with a baby was kidnapped from the house of a young couple. During the investigation, a mummified baby was found in the attic of the young couple's house, opening a decades old mystery.

The mother naturally has a nervous breakdown and begins acting really crazy.

What's different about this book is that the story goes back and forth from the present investigation and story to the past. We find out later that the two families are connected in a very interesting way.

I very much enjoyed this book and would like to get it again. My stepmother gave me this book thinking I'd enjoy it even though I don't normally read mysteries or suspense novels. Please help!"

Valerie (veegood) | 218 comments Sounds a bit like a Barbara Vine story, but not quite. She loved these twisty, convoluted stories.

Kat (tadpoledrain) | 155 comments I doubt this is it, because all the details don't quite match up, but enough of your description matched that it at least made me think of Bloodlines, by Sharon Sala Bloodlines.

There's a kidnapping, there's a mystery when the very old body of a dead child is discovered, I think there are twins (but girl/girl, not boy girl).
