SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 157 comments Check-In #4 - Hours 19-23 (8am-12pm)

How's it gone so far?: Hubs took the kids out, so I've had some time to read uninterrupted. I'm on to book number two, but I don't think I'll be anywhere near finished it by the end!

Total reading time: 2hrs (8hr 30mins total)

Books read: 75 pages of Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness

Coffees/Wines/Food: 2 coffees, toast with peanut butter and a bowl of sultana bran

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 157 comments THE END

Total reading time: approx. 9 hours
Total pages read: 320

What hour was most daunting?
- My readathon starts at 1pm, so I figured I'd sleep between 1am-7am. But I struggled after midnight, turned off the light at 12.30am and then managed to sleep in until 8am!

Tell us ALLLLL the books you read!
- I read the whole of Answer Me, and got 64% through Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness

What was your favorite snack?
- I hadn't planned to snack, due to ongoing issues with food in my life. But my recovery has basically blown up in my face... The positive side of that was a really nice cream filled yum yum, and some Cadbury's chocolate.

What was your favorite facet of the day?
- Besides the reading! I really enjoyed the mini-challenges and hourly check-in topics.

Wanna volunteer for our next event?
- I don't think I'd be able to dedicate the time and energy, I'm afraid. Maybe when my kids are older and I can be a bit more focused!

Plan for next time: Aim for 40mins reading in each waking hour, less solo parenting time (?kids to grandparents), prep dinner in advance, prep Instagram in advance!

Sounds like you had a great bathroom-readathon Sarah!
Prepping is great, I try to prep as much as I can.

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 157 comments I'm chipping in to the reverse readathon. I had hoped to go all-out on it - sending the kids to their dad all day and being really prepared. But it isn't working out that way, as my husband had the kids for most of last weekend instead and I ended up at a music festival last night. Readathon kicked off at 1am here, so I did an hour of reading before I went to bed and I'm doing a couple of hours this morning before the kids come home...but I can't lie, hangover is not helping my focus!

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2506 comments Oh nooo hangovers are not good for reading! lol. Hope it goes away quickly so you can get some reading done!

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 157 comments I managed over 100 pages of Madame Bovary before the kids came home (with the help of coffee and power naps!). Hoping to get the last 40 pages finished and start something new before the Readathon is over!

Woohoo you got this!

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 157 comments Excited for the Readathon!! I'll probably miss kick-off (1pm here) as I have to pick up middle son from an art club and then we're going to the opening of a local community centre as well. But I'm hoping to be pretty active from hour four...as long as the kids comply!

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 157 comments HOUR FOUR

Finally getting off the starting blocks! My TBR:

Watch Me Disappear by Jill Dawson to hopefully finish.
Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley for nighttime.
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy to get underway.

Susan | 697 comments Good luck! God of Small Things is a favorite. Hope you enjoy it.

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 157 comments And we're done!! I managed more reading than I thought my kids and tiredness levels would allow. I managed 8 hours and 15mins of reading, with a total of 233 pages.

I finished Watch Me Disappear by Jill Dawson, reading 210 pages. This is a book I've had on my shelves since forever, and it was a lot better than I had expected it to be.

I also got stuck into Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's Frankenstein, getting 23 pages in. I'm enjoying it so far!

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 157 comments Closing Survey!

How would you assess your reading overall?
I think I did pretty well, although it was patchy I did get a lot of pages under my belt. I'm happy with how I got on in this readathon.

Did you have a stategy, and if so, did you stick to it?
None at all. I just wanted to make it past 1am before getting some sleep, and I managed that. I do plan on having a bit more of a strategy for April though!*

What was your favorite snack?
I did have a bit too much Dairy Milk, so that was very nice. I also enjoyed my buttery toast with jam this morning.

Wanna volunteer for our next event?
It's my aim to be able to one day, but my kids are still too high maintenance for me to commit! If my husband is around next time I'll maybe put my name forward. I want to give back to something I love so much!

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 157 comments Notes for next time

- Keep my short reads for readathon, to break things up a bit.
- Get more social media in, 20mins in each hour (and think about photos etc in advance to avoid wasting reading time)
- Read 9hrs, sleep 6hrs, read 9hrs
- Have an audiobook so I can get out and walk
- Structure my eating to avoid crazy eating!
