Jason Oliver | 2105 comments There were parts of this book that I liked and parts I didn't like.

This story is told from the viewpoint of a high school student Charlie, who seems to be on the autism spectrum, through his letters to an unknown "friend". It becomes that you, the reader are that friend in my opinion.

I liked the message of the book about belonging, the meaning of being a friend.

What I didn't like was the serious issues mentioned at the book but addressed. They are left hanging and are not properly navigated. These issues are sex, drugs, parties, bully, homosexuality, molestation, incest. I was frustrated, for a YA book, the depth of the description but not the depth of discussion of these issues.

I could have easily rated this book as 2 stars, but I bumped it up to 3 because I did like Charlie, his friends, and the story as a whole.
