Thanks Karin! It's definitely going to be a bit of an adjustment, but I think it'll be good for us. Definitely lots of decluttering going on right now! And yes, the fact that it's close enough to drive easily is a plus.

Hi all! Just popping in to say hi -- I had the baby, June 19 at 5:47 am. Her name is Alaya and she's doing really well. Can't believe it's been almost a month! Taking care of a newborn is definitely impacting my reading time but I check in on the group quite a bit!!!
Congratulations, Katy! Glad you and Alaya are doing well. A new person in charge of the household really disrupts things, but you'll soon get the hang of it.

Yes, it definitely has an impact on reading time, but babies obviously take priority, not to mention the fact that ti can be rather exhausting. Enjoy your daughter!

Hmmmmmmm, O Pioneers! still hovering at 49 tags for Western despite Elizabeth and I tagging it as such.... looks like I may have to find another book for 20.2
Ed wrote: "Hmmmmmmm, O Pioneers! still hovering at 49 tags for Western despite Elizabeth and I tagging it as such.... looks like I may have to find another book for 20.2"Go ahead with it, Ed. I had shelved it as westerns (plural), but just changed it to western (singular). I know that information is heavily cached, so it may show OK by the time you claim it. Even so, westerns (plural) had 16 shelvings. We would be happy to add them together as we have done with similar genre tasks before.

On the points for strategic reader, are sub challenge points figured in or is it only for RWS challenge?

thank you Rebekah for your reply.
Great grandmother story - I sent a package to my granddaughter, which included "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" - Ashley said she read it for the bedtime story last night and the baby (now 10 weeks) slept over 10 hours straight - first time! And I thought - yay! Parents get some sleep, baby hears language, reading will become a habit. A three-fer!

There was a point in time when my friend's baby fell asleep best to Rosie Revere, Engineer - apparently there was something to the cadence that worked well. Unfortunately that was the same time when she tended to destroy books, so she couldn't enjoy it during waking hours, but you take what you can get, right?
How are you doing, Katy? Hope you're able to get some sleep, but if not, the day will come and you'll sleep like a baby!
So V.S. Naipaul died yesterday...https://news.sky.com/story/author-v-s...while never one of my favorite authors....he WAS the favorite author of one on my favorite travel writers- Paul Theroux.... but then they had some kind of falling out...don't remember why and if it was ever resolved.

I'll be heading to our no Internet Montana cabin we rent, so though I'll be reading, I probably won't post anything more this season because I won't have Internet again until the night of the 31st. See you again in fall season! Happy end of August!
Today was the first day of the fall library book sale...... of course, I went. The damage is 30 more books in the house. For 30 bucks though! A great deal. The good news is I picked up 2 Dick Francis I didn't have (normally when I try to do that I pick up ones I already have). I also picked up 2 novels that will fit the fall task 20.7, and yes, I did partially chose them because of their length! I also spent more time than usual looking over the non-fiction offerings, however I didn't see any that fit the fall task 20.2. There seems to be A LOT of self help though!
Nice job, Valerie! We had a 1-day library sale on Saturday and I managed to come home with 7 books. I've been on a tear lately for Kindle books, and I didn't really need to even look at more. I think these might be a deposit on future challenges.
Oh, there's no question that I 'needed' any of these books! ha, ha... If we have a bad winter and are snowed in we may run out of food, but I will have plenty to read!
Poll Watch: I have penciled in March Violets by Philip Kerr and I'll be happy with whatever is chosen on that one!
EDIT: I note the Elizabeth Speller has only 2 entries in the "series."
I think I've given up on posting for this season - I'm a little behind on the reading, but much farther behind on the posting. Fall will be a fresh start!!The Fall Favorites poll is great - I want to pick them all.

I think I also probably won't be posting anymore for the season, unless something changes in the next couple days. I have quite a few read that I had planned for certain tasks, but my desktop computer still isn't set up from our move and my planning/tracking document is trapped on it right now! That'll teach me not to have a backup on Drive.
Well, I am suddenly not feeling alone. I have been reading and trying to work my plan, but I seem to be making slow progress. To take the pressure off myself, I have decided to not post at all this season. And that has applied to another group also. I am participating...just not posting. Perhaps I will be back posting next season.
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "We always miss our regulars. Thanks for turning in an absence excuse. ;-)"I've owned a house for almost a year and in the course of redoing a single room (and making some other changes elsewhere, I still haven't moved into it. Grateful to my parents for letting me stay with them longer and to my dad for helping me... but I think I'm about a week away from staying there! Hopefully that'll free up at least 45 minutes a day in commute time and settle my schedule - just in time for the fall season!!! Glad to hear I'm not the only one :-P
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "How are you doing, Katy? Hope you're able to get some sleep, but if not, the day will come and you'll sleep like a baby!"Thanks for checking in! We're doing okay -- I was getting some sleep - she was actually a pretty good sleeper. She is going through a rough patch with sleep this week but I have faith it will work itself out :) I am easing into some new routines, which is nice - including my own reading (and, of course, reading to the baby!). It sounds silly (though probably not to anyone in this group!) but it was making me so stressed and unhappy to not be able to read at all, in the first week or so. Now that I don't just sit and feed her all day, and I've carved out a few bits of reading time here and there, I feel more myself!
Love the poll choices! I'm happy with all of the ones that are ahead, including both of the Fall Favorites neck-and-neckers :)Now back to reading. I think I have three tasks to fill, including the artist one for which I am reading an interesting but rather slow autobiography.
I was hoping to at least get my Bouvet Island book read and claimed before the end of the season, but I haven't been able to find it since we moved :(

I was so careful about packing, but with my books all I could do was label fiction or non-fiction books, so I'll have no idea until I open all the boxes where each book is. Moving is tough.
Hello good morning everyone! How many books has everyone read so far? For me, so far i have read 6 books this year. my goal is 10 books. It's extremely low because I am going to college for Vet Technician.
