Well..... the author starts in Malaysia....and at some point crosses over the indonesia border illegally.... he seems to spend most of the time in the Indonesia parts...but it is difficult to verify that.
BTW, I visited Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia on my trip. I had seven weeks because my office had canceled my vacations the two previous years. When I landed at the airport in Kuching, Malaysia (a strict Muslim country)...customs went through my luggage and found a large stash of New Yorker Magazines.... and I think the agents thought they found the mother lode of porn....but, as you probably know...as they leafed through all the pages...there was nothing incriminating. LOL
We actually are moving along toward the winter season, even if it doesn't look like it from the outside. Last week, the database got in a fight with Kate. It sulked, went into a corner and refused to speak to her. She joked and cajoled and talked nice and finally it started to listen. Unfortunately, its conditions for listening were that everything she said was treated as classified secret material. She wasn't allowed to tell anyone what was said between them, most especially not me.
But a new day dawned and it came out of its sulk. Things are finally chugging along again. I think Kate plans on having scores through Post 625 (the Nov 1 cutoff) wrapped up this weekend and her nice PMs will go out to those most affected.

Ha, ha.... it sounds like this old chestnut is appropriate: 'it's like it had a mind of it's own" !
Yay! Loved the Winter sub-challenge :DIs it bad to say that I've been refreshing the page all weekend? lol
LOL, Tien. Refreshing is definitely OK!I have a few lists to post from when we had these author tasks in prior seasons. It will be just a little bit. We have been having our one and only bathroom remodeled this week (and next) and I’m working mostly from my iPad while we are displaced. The lists (and my plan) are on my home computer. We’ll be going up to the house later and I can share them then.

I'm just happy to know I'm not the only one creeping here this weekend! ha, ha......
I am on a bowling team. We bowl on for 8 weeks in a season (fall, winter spring). My team in unique because everyone is blind and I am visually impaired. So on Saturday in my third game, I got a strike, 4 spares and a strike in a row. My score at the end was 133. Four spares in a row is called a chicken. Not sure why it is called that. Three spares in a row is called a turkey, very hard to get. 12 strikes in a row is a perfect game with a score of 300.

BTW - is it 5 pin or 10 pin?
I see that Ian Williams won the Giller Prize for Reproduction. The CBC article (below) noted that he is a poet, so I was hoping he might have a third 'form' and would qualify for C4 in COYA - but as far as I can tell the answer is no. Either way, good for him!https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment...

I just joined a Thursday night league after a 6 year hiatus. I previously had a 165 average....but my average is currently languishing in the 130s. The good news is that after 6 weeks of bowling...I have worked out all the muscle aches and pains. Our team name- The Retirees.

It was very cool. One of the teachers asked "How would you teach people with autism algebra and she said "Algebra is too abstract, move to geometry."
Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "I forgot to mention Temple Grandin came to speak at our school on Tuesday at our institute Day."How wonderful! I have watched several of her presentations on Youtube. I admire her, too.
My daughter went to a presentation by Temple, and was very impressed. She went on to read one of her books about autism later.

I haven’t been on much. I’m in Mario Vargas Llosa’s hometown! Perfect temperatures here. trying to pick up more Spanish. Visiting a friend I made while in India who is sponsoring Skyla with a volunteer project she needs in order to graduate.

But went to a wonderful museum of pre-Colombian art today. Not only were the artifacts amazing but the gardens were just covered with the most beautiful flowers.
I have voted, but I realized the other day that I don’t exactly know what years we will be using for the “industrial revolution”. Hopefully the range will be broad!
Valerie wrote: "I have voted, but I realized the other day that I don’t exactly know what years we will be using for the “industrial revolution”. Hopefully the range will be broad!"Yes, it will be broad. Kate and I talked about this a little, but didn't look into it in detail. I know it started in the mid-1700s. I see this title: The Industrial Revolutionaries: The Making of the Modern World 1776-1914 which starts a tad later but extends the date to WWI.
And we will have further clarification when Kate posts the task. As it's Thanksgiving weekend here, that may not be until Sunday or Monday.

Ok good!
Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks, Valerie. This may be too much information, but we finally got back to the house on Wednesday. The bathroom remodel isn't complete, but we have a toilet, for which I am very thankful.

We were in that exact situation when when built our house (not the one we are living in now).... and when you finally have a toilet again it's a great day!
Well, I just posted my last book for this season. I'm one book short of a mega, but I made peace with that at the beginning of the week. I really want to read The Genius of Birds (which fits for 10.9), just not right now. So, I've ended on a high note.It was a fun season, and I think I completed more tasks than ever in a fall season.

For the Post-Modern Genius task, you can read books through 244. That's actually 255 books, where there is a tie for place that deep.
Well, I think this is the first time since I re-joined that I failed to post. I did participate, but my reading just did not focus on the books I needed for this group.I did finish 5 of my PnM plan, but I failed to get around to posting soon enough. And, for the rest of the challenge, only 3 books got read.
I will try to do better next time.

It was last weekend. I did post that Kate had opened the polls. Sometimes it's hard to keep up when there are a lot of things going on. I hope you'll like the tasks in any case.

Me too, Bea. I actually finished PnM but didn't get around to posting.
I have my plan for Winter in place, though, so hopefully should do better.
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "Thanks, Valerie. This may be too much information, but we finally got back to the house on Wednesday. The bathroom remodel isn't complete, but we have a toilet, for which I am very thankful."I completely understand. Congratulations!! My house was built in 1962, so it's the age when things might go wrong. The drain from the two baths had a joint break inside the walls. Insurance paid for the damage, but it has been a long two month process. We actually placed a metal washtub in the bottom of one of the showers and were dumping the shower water into the toilet so that it would not further damage the walls and run under the house.
Progress to date: both baths work again. The plumber has been here twice and replaced all the necessary pipes. We pulled out all the heating and air duct work from under the house. They had gotten wet and moldy from the shower water. (We are using electric space heaters for a while.) We had the crawlspace sanded, treated against mold, some wood replaced, and then it was "encapsulated". Anyway, I am so pleased. Next, in the Spring we will get a new central heat and air system.
I totally get it. Having the house worked on, while you live in it, takes a lot out of you.

I can't imagine having to live through such a fix. We couldn't have lived here. We stayed in a motel until the remodel got to the stage where they could put the toilet back in. It's going to be another 10 days at least before we have any sinks, as the vanity top is in Seattle, now finally ready to be cut, and then it will have to come up on the barge.

Ed, which part of Borneo do you think is the main focus of the book? We watched a program on Borneo as a 3-part series on Indonesia the other evening. But I learned that the island is also part of Brunei and Malaysia. I'd be happy to add this to our Group Project page, as none of those three countries is complete.
