My info must be dated...:)
I know it is hard to get a job if you never had work experience. This happened to me when I was in college. How are you supposed to get experience if no one will hire you? I had to rely on my volunteer work as experience and babysitting jobs.
My business man husband explained to me there are many jobs employers have difficulty filling and therefore recruit from other countries. The reason being they are in specific fields mostly engineer, chemistry, and tech related. Hence the push of STEM in public schools now. And I must say as a nurse, I never had any trouble and often worked with nurses recruited from all over the world. And I know in this state at least there is a severe teacher shortage. And the low paying manual labor jobs have a real labor shortage, fast food places, people that pick crops, retail outlets,
My nieces, one graduated from law school and another with a degree in Sociology had a hard time finding employment and now work at jobs that have nothing to do with their field of study.
Is that what seems to have in other places?

Maybe that whole need experience thing is to push these other programs to get some free labor. Oh and military.

An advertisement for myself.... I have a review for A Lost Lady by Willa Cather contending for Best Review on one of the SRC polls. https://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/2...
If you have the inclination, please consider voting for my review...thanks.

Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "The polls close tonight at midnight Pacific. Did everyone vote? Any lobbying/changes?"Oh, I hope there aren't big changes...I have already been picking book possibilities!
Bea wrote: ".I have already been picking book possibilities! "Me too, for the 2 that aren't likely to change. I'm waiting on the group shelves one, although it's probably what it is, too.
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "The polls close tonight at midnight Pacific. Did everyone vote? Any lobbying/changes?"Yes, I was one of the first to vote. My vote for poll 2 was the only 'popular' one. However, it turns out all of the leading choices in the polls work well for books I would like to get to this season. I hope poll 3 doesn't change because, despite not being the one I voted for, I found book(s) in the leading groups that work for my Classic Author Challenge.
I voted on 2 out of 3. I do not know anything about Iris Murdoch's books, so I had no opinion on that poll. I do have a question. The author with no letter I, is that an I or an l LOL. Is it the vowel i or the small version of L? Not that it really makes a difference to me.
It is the vowel I. The poll last year was about 4 of the 5 vowels.
You don't have to know about Iris Murdoch, any book that fits the winning task will work.

Thanks
I actually changed my vote on the visiting groups. I saw that the nonfiction was going nowhere and I used the historical fictionista list to pick an audio book from the library for a long drive that I will be making May 31-June 1 and didn’t want that choice to loose at the last minute!
I have a question about the number of "views" shown on GR for each subject....for example the Spring Completed Tasks topic shows 57 views...but it seems to me that I alone probably went to that topic around 57 times. Does each individual count as a view no matter how many times they go to the posts? Or is it counted some other way. Not important...just curious.
The count is for each unique view, so likely only 1 per person, even if you access on more than one device. If you delete your cookies, I think it counts you a second time, but I'm not sure about that. We have members who lurk. I'm not sure if they do the challenge on their own or not, but happy for them if they do, and also especially happy in the seasons when we have the review style.

It's funny how the planning for a season can work out.For the summer tasks that have been posted (including the sub-challenge) I can fulfill 13 tasks with books that I have hard copy of! That's even without including my choice of task for 10.1! For the spring challenge I had a harder time fulfilling tasks from the towering piles.
As well - once again, if I stick to my plan - I should be able to read 8 books from the A-Z classic author list!
Congratulations to all of the finishers this season. We went to Montana (where there is no power or phone) over Memorial Day weekend this year, so I was excited to come back and see the other added tasks. It's going to be another great season!

It's why I always have at least twice (or even 3 times) the number of books in my plan than I can actually read. And even then, there is likely to be a late add.

Hear! Hear!
Sometimes, impulse pick turns out best because that's just what we're in the mood for! There's a lot to be said about impulse reading ;)
Hey, everybody! For my summer season task, I want to get everyone involved—the old guard, the new members, the dalliers and lurkers, the hardcore reading-with-stylers...every member who’s interested in throwing in their two cents:I’ve created this Listopia https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1... and would like to invite you all to add your two all-time favorite books to this list...the books you recommend when someone finds out you’re a reader, the two books you come back to again and again, the two that have most shaped you as a reader or inspired you in some way.
Please have your choices added by June 7th at the latest, please and thank you! xo
Wow, what a terrific idea, Anika! You may see a lot of classics...btw: your listopia link isn't working

thank you...that hyperlink was hating on me hard so i gave up and did it the less elegant way ;-)
can’t wait to see your picks!

I agree. I'm always slightly surprised when I stick to my plan because I would say I'm not very good at that generally. I enjoy a little serendipity!

Oh, if you saw my spreadsheet you would see the exact same 'problem'. Particularly if is a task that I especially like. Occasionally there will be a task where I top out at nine choices before I come to my senses! ha, ha...
Anika wrote: "Hey, everybody! For my summer season task, I want to get everyone involved—the old guard, the new members, the dalliers and lurkers, the hardcore reading-with-stylers...every member who’s intereste..."I posted my two cents! As Tien said it will be interesting to see the end result.
I put in a couple I have reread multiple times over the years, although there were so many others I was tempted to pick instead!
I added my two..... QB VII and Tales of the City..... My all-time favorite...The Count of Monte Cristo had already been added
I have too many choices! But I added Angle of Repose and I wanted to add a Faulkner and chose The Reivers, a picaresque novel and entirely unlike his more complex novels.
Valerie wrote: "If enough books are added, the mods may have to turn it into a task!"As Anika is likely to have a summer task, this is her intention.

That is so hard! I have a hard time picking my favorites out of such narrow categories as Mystery Detective novel based in London with a female author born in the first half of the 20th century! Or even favorite book written by Mark Twain! Lol

That's great, Deedee! I have heard that jobs are hard to come by for the young. However, her degree would be a useful one in any economy, I think.
