The winners of August 2014's BoTM are:
- FANTASY: Half a King by Joe Abercrombie
- SCI-FI: The Martian by Andy Weir

Book discussion may start at ANY point during the month. There will also be 'overall' discussion threads as more members finish the books - anyone can create these!

I have read the Martian recently and loved it. A very interesting book with a great central character. I read it for a bookgroup and one of the things that came up as we discussed it , and i am writing as a warning of sorts here, is that there are different endings dependent on the edition bought.
The self published edition seemed to have a completely different ending to the later trad published version.
I thought I'd post this now to stop any future confusion for you guys.

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) A couple of good reads there. Looking forward to what people think of them.

Oh really, Paul? :o That's interesting! I expect the majority of people in the group will end up with the traditionally published ending though.

I'd say so . Its worth pointing out as they are very different endings and those who read the early alternate seemed to like the book less.

The Martian is well worth its place. So good.

Hmm. I might have to read it. I wasn't planning on it but maybe I will.

Roger its well worth it. I read it with another general book group and it went down well all round.

I started Half A King today
Interesting so far. It seems to be a retelling of Hamlet with a few twists thrown in. Abercromies style shines through even if hes toned down for the YA audience

If you could keep the book-related chat to a separate discussion thread, just to avoid any possible spoilers (and get discussion going in the right place, haha!)

Anyone can create discussion threads, not just mods :D I'll join in as soon as I start the book, which will be soon...
