I am enjoying this character driven novel. The protagonist is Edwin Fisher, a university professor, in his early 30s, who on the spur of the moment decides to holiday at the seaside, where his parents took him for their annual holiday.

He has recently left his wife of six (?) years and during his holiday and interactions with people at the seaside resort, he recalls his past life.

The descriptions of an English seaside village are finely observed and give you a real sense of the place and the time period, the 1960s. He strikes up a lot of conversations with various holiday makers. Edwin is a sociable guy and at the same time, a lonely man trying to understand his wife and her behaviours over the six years of their marriage.

It's not an action packed, plot driven novel, but lots happen!
