April 2018 Scavenger Hunt
Begins: 01Apr18 / Ends: 30Apr18

.

Your challenge is to find the following words/phrases in the TEXT of the books you are reading this month.

You are NOT restricted to one book / one word; you may find as many of the words/phrases in a single book as you like. If you find all the words in one book you are really lucky!

This month's scavenger list are words that were found in
Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler
NOTE - you may NOT use this book for the scavenger hunt!

BASIC word list
argument
basement
childbirth
dishes
energy
girdle
hesitate
interior
liquor
nursing home
pajamas
reverend
salary
whistle
yarn

Optional/BONUS word list
buttermilk
fire drill (exact phrase)
klutz
Pearly Gates (exact phrase)
varnished

===========================================

Unless a variation is specified above, words must match exactly, with the following exceptions: I will accept a plural/singular version, or differences in spelling between British and American English (e.g. honor or honour). But those are the ONLY deviations allowed. So if you are looking for "daddy" - I will NOT allow "father", "Pops" or "dad".

All books used must be a minimum of 100 pages long - Page length determined by HARDCOVER 1st edition. If no Hardcover, then the most popular paperback governs page #.

You may read in any format - text, audio or e-book. If using audio or e-book I suggest using Amazon.com's "look inside" feature to get a page number for you quote.

You MUST finish the book before you can claim credit for finding the word/phrase.

Report as follows:
Word - Title of book - date finished - page # where you found the text - QUOTE
E.g.
1. Acidic – The Midnight Watch – 07Jan18 – pg 160 – "…through the acidic sludge…"

Have fun!

Welcome to the hunt, Ed. I've got you linked up.

If you'd like to search books you've read since the beginning of the month, that's perfectly okay.

You're doing great, Donna! Welcome to the scavenger hunt.

You might want to use the "add book/author" link just above the comment box to add the book titles. Other's might want to read the same book if you've found a word/phrase they are still looking for. Using the link helps avoid confusion when titles are the same.

Well, the "BONUS" words should be difficult to find ... I'm still searching for "citronella" from back last July! (Though if I don't find it THIS month, I'm taking it off my list and conceding defeat.)

Like nearly everyone else ... still searching for "pearly gates" ...

Donna | 405 comments I knew I had read "citronella" somewhere recently, so I searched. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who enjoys the thrill of the chase, but if you want to know where I found it...

I do this too. I find it increases my endorphin production when I finally find them. :-)

Great question! I just read what I read and search for the words within those books. Sometimes I get really lucky and find all the words in just a couple of books.

Same for me. I grab a book and cross my fingers! Once I am down to <10, I try to be somewhat more selective in my book choices.

No it does not, Ed. I'll take that. Same if you find it hyphenated when the original phrase was not.

Thanks for asking.

I know what you mean, Koren. Some word/phrase pratically jumped off the page at me the other day and I did a mad search through all my challenges looking for where it was before I finally found it (Not in this group).
