The obvious choices having been snapped up I'll go for one from their last album released just days before the plane crash and only a few dates into their US tour, the dates of which were printed on the inner LP bag. It's also a song which shows how self-aware they were with Ronnie Van Zant expressing open disgust at the self-destructive, substance abusing behaviour of his band-mates. In their early days he is supposed to have corralled and coerced the band with an iron will in an effort to grab the brass ring but once they made it and were making money ..........A Simple Man

The best support band I ever saw (Rainbow Theatre 23/11/74) , Golden Earring never stood a chance following them on.I then saw them a few weeks later headlining at the same venue.They were so much better live than on record.My favourite LS track is already on the list so I'll go with this great J. J. Cale cover.

There we go then, a close run race, but edging by a single point, KJS's nom, Call Me The Breeze.The Duke grabs the silver with Tuesday's Gone, and filling the podium, Tim, with that old chestnut, Freebird.
I am not sure that they ever really managed to equal those early glory years, but kudos to them for still coming up with new music after all this time.
yeah, too much fun! well done the winners!always had a soft spot for 'free bird' - not because i like it, but it was always a great deal of fun watching the 'rockers' dance to it (at local discos, for local people!), swaying around awkwardly with dennis hopper faces, for the first 4 hours of the song, until it speeds up, at which time air guitars were permissable! :)

Air guitars are permissible, nay mandatory, throughout Free Bird.I have a mate who I go to lots of gigs with who still air guitars at nearly 60 but it doesn't stop there. The air drums and air keyboards are particularly excruciating to be in close proximity to.
Hard to believe, but they have been going for about 45 years now, maybe one day they'll get to the end of Freebird.
Wiki says 14 albums to their name, so plenty to choose from. Usual rules apply, noms close 10pm Sunday, etc, etc.
Before then, I have a total of 16 bands to see, including the next heat of our search to find a band to play Mammothfest, could be a noisy weekend coming up :-)
