Thanks for sharing, Vintage.
My fav hit that top 10 list: Miss Marple!
Enjoyed the comments section, especially defending Scarlett. It was always Melanie's grace over Scarlett's self absorption. But that's the movie Scarlett, as I never read the book.
Now I'm intrigued.

I was pretty young when I read GWTW, and I hated both characters. Now, older, I can appreciate Scarlet so much more as she just did what had to be done to take care of everyone. I thought Melanie was weak and realized she just had a quiet strength.

I was sorry not to see Katniss on the list, but I'm not sure who would go? Maybe Alice?

Just thought of something, if you like Agatha Christie you should try Patricia Wentworth. She wrote mysteries at the same time period as AC, and has a wonderful sleuth named Miss Silver.

They are pretty formulaic, but like Christie they show a glimpse of what life in England was like in the 30s, 40s and 50s. I always wondered what the rivalry was like as there are more similarities than differences between the two authors and they were both prolific.

Here are a few of her better ones.

Latter End: A Miss Silver Mystery
The Gazebo
The Clock Strikes Twelve
Lonesome Road
Poison in the Pen
