Robert Zwilling | 1999 comments 17 Right Whales died last year and no new births were seen this past winter but they could still have births in the next two years.

Births can fluctuate because it can be three or more years between pregnancies. However the right whales are only living half their normal life expectancy of 60 years and are going up to 8 years between pregnancies, which is double the normal time.

Thanks. I've been saying for some time, that manufacturers of fishing gear should be made to pay for cleanups and for projects to give money to fishermen who turn in worn or broken gear for proper disposal. This waste is another hidden cost in the chain.
