James you're not far from me.
It's interesting to me that people living in difference places have such different takes and ideas about books. I'm a military brat and lived lots of places so I'm not exactly sure where my thoughts were formed but I know they're different than people who've lived in one place all their lives. (I sometimes envy these people - having such a connection with their community)
I also like finding out interesting facts about other places - example is today I mentioned that lightening fried our TV and a Goodreads friend from the Philippians said she's never heard of lightening striking anything in her area. Happens here frequently.

Kirsten #NeverAgainIsNow wrote: "I live in Kennewick, Washington, USA. I live in the brown part of the Evergreen State (LOL!)"I love the US State nicknames (even if sometimes, as in Kirsten's case they're not appropriate!). In the UK, we don't have systematic nicknames for our counties , but the two most well-known ones are Yorkshire - the White Rose county and Lancashire - the Red Rose county. This goes back to the emblems used during the Wars of the Roses.
Although I live in London, I have a strong allegiance with Yorkshire, the county of my ancestors. In fact August 1st was Yorkshire day, when true Yorkshire folk wear white roses.
I live on the Las Vegas Strip.I've been here almost two years and it suits me.
The 24-hour life is fun.

Singapore, small island. We had the haze a few days ago. Some of you might have read about it. It was in the news.
I had to wear a mask to protect myself. It came from Indonesia. Some private companies had burned the trees to clear the land, so the wind blew the laze here.
But, I'm still alive...so hello world!
:-)

So glad you're still alive. How long did the haze last?
