Vari Robinson (varijoan) | 1 comments The book "Rebel Without Applause: Tales from the Castro Renaissance" by C. Whitefeather Daniels has the ISBN 1-929156-00-6 and ISBN-13 of 9-781929-156009. However, on Goodreads, when you search this ISBN a different book (Poems and Comments on Tai Chi Chuan: With Instructions for the Standard Forms in English and Polish) comes up. I added "Rebel Without Applause..." as it was not a goodreads book yet, but was unable to attach it to the ISBN because of the other book is wrongly attached. This should be fixed, and "Poems and Comments..." should have its ISBN changed to reflect the correct ISBN.

Sandra | 23834 comments Checking WorldCat, the Poems and Comments on Tai Chi Chuan etc also has the same isbn.

This is not uncommon. Publishers re-use isbns all the time. GR policy is that the first book in the database with the isbn keeps it.

Added more details & cover & also a librarian note both in the description & on the combine page re the isbn.

That is no longer the policy. https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/8...

Sandra | 23834 comments Even when its 2 distinctly different books, different authors? Not just an updated edition of the same book?

In the other case of duplicate ISBNs, it may be that an ISBN was reused on a completely different book. This shouldn't happen because ISBNs are supposed to be unique, but exceptions have been found. If that is the case, manually add a new edition to the database and add the ISBN to this edition in the ISBN field. Remove the ISBN from the older book, and in the Description field, list the ISBN and state that it is an older book and that you are moving the ISBN to the more recently published book. You can also use the Librarian Note feature found near the top of the book edit page to add a note to the book.

Sandra | 23834 comments In that case the isbn stays because it is the newer book.

But definitely a change to the old policy. Good to know for next time.

Thanks Rivka :)
