I don't remember if this is fantasy or simply set in the past. A young woman runs away from home, I think with a younger sister or daughter. She has gone into town for a fair or something, and a woman who travels with the fair takes her in? At some point she ends up taking refuge in a cabin in the woods with an initially standoffish man.
