I have never been camping, either in a tent, trailer or RV, but have taken some road trips with my parents as a kid, in Ontario. We saw a lot of trees, farms and rocks.

I enjoyed this book a lot, especially since I have rediscovered just how much I like the way Steinbeck writes.In the section on California, he talks about getting marine animals to sell, just like one of the characters in Cannery Row.
