The categories for April are:

War and Travel
Crime

Let's see what you guys want to read!

Bryan--The Bee’s Knees (theindefatigablebertmcguinn) | 565 comments For War and Travel, I nominate A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute

For Crime, I nominate A Coffin for Dimitrios by Eric Ambler (I'd also be happy with Journey Into Fear by the same author, but I think you all have already read that one)

Christopher (Donut) | 234 comments I second A Coffin for Dimitrios.

It's a pretty good Peter Lorre movie, circa 1942.

I've just recently bought a copy of Coffin for Dimitrios, so I'd be happy with that
I've already read Town Like Alice, so

for War & Travel I nominate All Quiet on the Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque

I like that movie, which I saw long before I read the book. When I did read the book (which I recommend btw), I kept seeing Peter Lorre and Sidney Greenstreet in my mind :)

we could do with a few more nominations :o)

particularly another Crime suggestion to go up against Coffin for Dimitrios...

If no one else nominates, I tend to add one of the losers from a previous poll just so there is something to vote on.

Lets get some nominations, though, guys!

For my first ever nomination :) I would like to nominate for Crime To Kill a Mockingbird - one I've always wanted to read but never got round to.

Congrats at becoming a moderator btw, Darren!

And for War and Travel - The Good Soldier Švejk.

message 10: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 825 comments I have read more of the Crime books than any of the other sections so it is hard for me to come up with ones I haven't read already! But I have been wanting to reread Friday the Rabbi Slept Late so I will nominate that.

For War and Travel, I nominate The Cruel Sea.

ok so we have

for War & Travel:
A Town Like Alice
All Quiet on the Western Front
The Good Soldier Švejk
The Cruel Sea

and for Crime:
A Coffin for Dimitrios (aka A Mask For Dimitrios)
To Kill a Mockingbird (surprised we haven't had this already!)
Friday the Rabbi Slept Late

I think best to call the nominations closed now cos we need to get on with voting

I will put up the Polls soon... (if I can work out how to do it!)

...drum roll...

The Mask of Dimitrios and A Town Like Alice

The Mask of Dimitrios by Eric Ambler A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute

so make sure you round up copies in the next few days...!

Bryan--The Bee’s Knees (theindefatigablebertmcguinn) | 565 comments Oof...I'll be in for both reads, but not till the middle of the month.

message 15: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 825 comments Both of these books are great! I don't think that I will reread both but I will probably do one...
