Aubrey (korrick) | 2004 comments Heat and Dust, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, 1975, India, NOVEL

"...As the narrator stays in the town where Olivia lived, and visits places that influenced Olivia's life, we witness India's pasts through Olivia's letters and journals and the narrator's imagination...Ruth Prawer Jhabvala shows us India before and after independence, and exposes the similarities and differences of India's impact on each of these women."

(H.S., p. 235)

Aubrey (korrick) | 2004 comments FYI, Jhabvala was born in Germany to Jewish parents and spent a great deal of her life in India.
