SamSpayedPI | 2069 comments I read a short story in one of those digest-sized science fiction magazines, probably The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction or Asimov's Science Fiction. It was probably in the mid-to-late 1980, give or take a few years.

The story was told from the POV of a father, whose daughter finds or is given a rag doll, which the father becomes more and more frightened of. The father believes that the doll is possessing the little girl's spirit, although if memory serves it was presented as more of an alien possession than a demonic possession.

The creepiest part was when the father (view spoiler)

You'd think that someone over the years would have developed an index of these old SF digests and the stories they contain, but if someone has, I can't find it.
