SOLVED. Children's book: group of kids stuck in Carlsbad Caverns [s]

A few kids get stuck in Carlsbad Caverns...it may have been part of a series where some siblings travel to different places with a magic telescope after moving into a new house (their last name was maybe Green). If it was part of that series, I also forgot the series. In either case, the story was supposed to be part educational, part adventure for kids. I also remember something about...one of the boys was excited about wolverines, and at some point it was suggested that they burn their clothes for light/heat, but one of them pointed out that they were polyester, and therefore toxic (that's really the only detail I remember).

Probably read it between 2007 and 2010, and it definitely wasn't new...maybe published in the 90s? No idea about the cover. I FEEL like the author was female, but I have no idea.
