I see another John Grisham is due out in October 2018, The Reckoning. I know we’ve seen some misfires from him lately but the description looks promising. (And maybe a group read for Nov/Dec?)

New York Times bestselling author John Grisham returns to Clanton, Mississippi, to tell the story of an unthinkable murder and the bizarre trial that follows it, in this powerful new legal thriller.Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, father, neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946. he rose early, drove into town, walked into the Church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell. As if the murder wasn't shocking enough, it was even more baffling that Pete's only statement about it - to the sheriff, to his defense attorney, to the judge, to his family and friends, and to the people of Clanton - was "I have nothing to say." And so the murder of the esteemed Reverend Bell became the most mysterious and unforgettable crime Ford County had ever known.
Nov-2018 I just saw that another author has been tapped to pick up the Sunny Randall series with a new entry (#7) Robert B. Parker's Blood Feud coming in late November. Mike Lupica is a sports writer.
That is awesome news, Ann! I know Mike Lupica well because he writes for the dreaded New York papers (to those who don't know me I bleed Boston sports) and also has written a ton of Y/A books with sports themes. Interesting choice for the Sunny Randall series, we'll see what he does with it.
So we will get the Boston spin from you on a New York author writing about a hard core Boston PI. Can't wait.
Carol: I didn't realize that he had written YA books, will check that out.Carol/Bonadie wrote: "That is awesome news, Ann! I know Mike Lupica well because he writes for the dreaded New York papers (to those who don't know me I bleed Boston sports) and also has written a ton of Y/A books with ..."
Barry: This does sound like Carol's take will be interesting!

Me? For the very first time in my life I have absolutely no time to read. The work has been steadily piling up until I realized just the other day that I had started three different books within the last year -- and had finished none! I really can't believe it. Never before in my life have I been so stupidly busy -- and not with exciting affairs either but with yard work, the garden, training the new puppy, dealing with an unplanned litter of pups and such stuff like that. I find all the work so much harder now that I need my walker to do everything. And carving out time to write the sequel to my recent book has been like pulling your own teeth. Almost impossible. That's why I lurk here mostly. Because I have nothing to contribute. But I really enjoy the lively discussions on this board about my favourite subject -- books.
I just wanted to pop in and say something because my last interactions with you guys was a bit weird and I wanted to yet again speak words here so that you could see that though I'm still only lurking there is a reason for that. On that last occasion I really wasn't trying to hawk books.
So with all that said, I just wanted to say HI. Now I guess I'll say BYE.
So, bye.
Best,
Darren.
Darren for a life long reader that must be difficult to accept. I imagine trying to juggle writing a sequel and a busy life doesn't leave much time. Since reading for most of us is a component of experiencing balance, I hope you'll find a good book that returns you to the habit. Of course we all like to finish a book, but reading doesn't have to always be about finishing either. Good luck!

Hi Ann, yes it has been trying at times. Especially lately as I see summer pass by and I've yet to be moved by any singular piece of literature. I've been thinking of re-reading The Mountain Story by Lori Lansens jest because, as tales of survival go, it was bloody brilliant. Ive also got a book by a fellow Goodreads author, Dawn Ireland called The Last Dog which is quite promising and with a 3-day family reunion this weekend hopefully i will get some reading time in.But next week the crabapples have to be picked and apple juice and cider made and canned.
You know... I'm not really sure I like summers on the farm anymore!
(just kidding. I secretly love them.)
Best,
Darren
Darren, we all know what it's like to be too busy to read, and it does indeed suck. Thanks for coming in out of lurkdom to chime in, it's much more fun to hear from people even if you don't have much to contribute on books you're reading. One reason to look forward to winter, I suppose!

Hey, wait a second. Why is this only a Barry/Sherry excursion? (No matter that I don't have a clue who Kyle Mills is.)
Carol: I haven’t read a Kyle Mills book in years but I enjoyed his Mark Beamon series back in 2001 or so. A maverick FBI agent, don’t remember more. Have fun going to see him! I’m planning on seeing Lisa Scottoline this Thursday at Parnassus Books here in Nashville. This will be the second time I’ve gone to an event for her. (Also many years ago) I’m excited!
I did not think it was a Barry/Sherry. It is not an excursion without you Carol. These days Kyle Mills has grown from his own thrillers to ghosting dead authors too, like Vince Flynn.

Yah. Should I go ahead and get my ticket throught the Bank Street web site?
It's a Tuesday night so it might depend on what I have going on work-wise, but I'll say yes for now.

Thank you! Hadn't seen Black & Blue...was able to get on the list at the library already.I recently watched the Clancy's Jack Ryan inspired series on Amazon. I've never read one of his books! How highly recommended is this series?
I kinda blow hot and cold on the series. Not that I miss Clancy's writing, he stopped writing his own books long before he died. More like you have to be in the right mood for spy novel and the inherent skewing of truth involved.
