RogueReader | 5 comments Was either a Young Adult or Sci Fi novel, possibly a short story? This was read approximately around '94/'95. I checked it out from the middle school library. It was hardback, seemed to be fairly recent (5-10 years maybe). I do not recall what the front cover looked like or any other details about the author.

Plot: This was an odd story. One of the main characters is walking down the street and notices a new kiosk/shop. Curious, he/she investigates it and discovers that it dispenses food/dessert in several flavors, for free. More of these start to appear across the city and as more people start to make use of it, they begin to gain weight. Then another new kiosk/store opens that provides a service of removing excess fat from people (some sort of instant liposuction?). I can't remember if this service was free or not. It wasn't explicitly stated where these kiosks/stores came from or who runs them, but it is implied that someone is collecting the fat tissue, possibly as some sort of energy source?

This one has been bugging me for a while. Hopefully someone can figure it out.
