Hmm, unique?
I think was sort of unique with it's 'the companies own everything', contrary to 'the government controls everything'.
Imho still pretty much unique.
With it's love for the 80s this book is probably very much unique. But I think the 'most of this is in a cyberworld' thing has been done before. It's a very geeky book.

I recommend any of Neal Shusterman's books, but especially the Unwind trilogy starting with

Blake Crouch's Wayward Pines trilogy.

I would second Ready Player One as unique.
I read and liked Unwind but would not condider that unique.

Nor previously suggested: I liked Red Rising but not very unique IMO. Maybe the Wool books? I liked those.
