I'm sure I'll get some stick for this, but since I knew him when we were both a lot younger, and he played bass in my brother-in-laws band that I used to roadie for back when I lived in Leeds.R.I.P. Colin Gibb of Black Lace.
I'm with you Derek. I bought Black Lace's 20 All Time Party Favourites some 30 years ago and it had good service in the family. It still has its place in my collection.

Farewell Bob Newhart - there was a time when his phone call sketches were everywhere - remember Walt Raleigh explaining tobacco? And the driving instructor?
Val wrote: "Farewell Bob Newhart - there was a time when his phone call sketches were everywhere - remember Walt Raleigh explaining tobacco? And the driving instructor?"Just watched one of his videos online as I thought I'd heard of him, I hadn't. I don't know if you've ever watched Friends, but he reminds me of David the scientist guy with his style of delivery and stammering.

Bob was a recurring character (as Professor Proton) in The Big Bang Theory, initially as a living person, but later as a kind of 'force ghost' in Jedi robes who would appear in Sheldon's dreams.

The stammering was a real condition Bob turned to advantage in his act.

Jerry Fuller, songwriter, has died aged 85. Known for writing Ricky Nelson's Travelin' Man, all the hits by Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, The Surfaris' Wipe Out (with others) and Al Wilson's Show And Tell.
John Mayall - a genuinely lovely man. His sister Caroline was a neighbour for several years and I still remember what a huge deal his occasional visits to her house were although, being a very young child, I obviously had no idea why ... LOL!!! It came as quite a surprise to me much later in life to suddenly realise just who her gentle, kind and quiet brother was! ;o>
I used to spend hours at her house playing with her daughter, Joanna, in the constant presence of John and Caroline's outrageously flamboyant and absolutely fabulous Mum who was simply known to everyone as 'No-nie'. She always wore stunningly unique clothes, talked with a (faux?) posh voice, called everyone "Daaarling", and very fondly referred to our Dusty whenever he broke out into their Garden as ... "that bladdy dog!"
Happy Days ... x RIP John x

Sad news Val, The Chills never hit commercial status, but did release consistently good albums and are a joy to listen to.

Thanks Val, I'll watch that tonight.
Farewell to Black Caviar - the horse that captured the hearts of Australians. 25 starts for 25 wins - she was a whopper of a mare in both size and heart. I was lucky enough to see her race and one of many thousands who stayed up into the wee small hours to watch her run and win at Royal Ascot in 2012 before being presented to the Queen. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-08-1...
