Lee T Fat Vampire Review #2

When I picked up this book and saw the cover and title I pretty much had an idea of what the story was about, A fat vampire. This of course peaked my interest after all the twilight movies and true blood it’s good to finally see a story of a flawed vampire. Flawed is a bit of an understatement when it comes to this novel. The book opens up with the main character Reginald a fat guy who’s always been the fat guy throughout his life, from high school, college and now work. The ironic part of the intro he works at a fitness equipment manufacturer where most of his co-workers resemble models from the latest Kelvin Kline photo shoot. There are the exceptions the female workers and Maurice the gothic looking kid from the night shift.
The story does give you a little idea of what’s it’s like to be an obese man in modern times. I’ve even experienced one of the situation that he talked about going to class and having to sit on the end of seat during lectures in college. I had an obese classmate who decided to sit next to me in an area where he shouldn’t have been trying to sit at let us say it was awkward if I came to class after him. Back to the story, Reginald befriends Maurice and him and the women of the office form friendship much like the misfit toys did from the Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. Reginald forms a bromance with Maurice and goes bowling and during that time things go wrong. Maurice is confronted by a group that turns out to be fellow vampires and the scene turns in to an all out vampire battle like some thing from the Underworld movies series. Reginald is bitten in the process and is given the option to die or live as an vampire. Of course he chooses to live and what follows is pretty comical till the end of the story.
Reginald finds out that being a vampire is much harder then it appears on television and the movies. Some of the scenes when Reginald is hunting for food is laugh out loud funny, if you can imagine a 350 pound plus vampire trying to be stealth and run you have an ideal what your in for. The story does stereotype obese or fat people a little too much when it comes to eating for my tastes so if you plan on teaching this in your classroom it might often those who are obese or have a family member who are. This is the type of story for those who want a break from the sugar coated every one beautiful and perfect vampire stores. It’s part of a series so if you want more you’ll have to get the other books.
