Betty (nightreader) | 26 comments In British Columbia it is substantially rumoured that funding will be cut to public libraries throughout the province. Already funding that was expected before this has not come through nor has any explanation been forthcoming. Is this happening in other provinces too? Should we get some ideas going as to what might be done to protect our libraries? I'm already going after the B.C. goverment about the harmonized tax due to take place on everything that is presently tax-exempt. Please note this is definitely against an election promise by this party. I am now starting on the large cuts proposed in health care, especially disastrous in the north where already patients travel hundreds of kms/year for various tests, specialists, etc. Next up for me will be to try to find out why all the secrecy surrounding the libraries and if they are or are not to expect funding. Just want some answers and vocal support if required from my Canadian "family". Strong feelings, part of my Canadian heritage combined with becoming a senior I guess! ;-)

Melissa Sawatsky | 2 comments Brava Betty! I'm behind you ... how exactly are you taking on these issues? Is there anything I/we can do to help?

Thank you, Betty...I did not know this.

I will think of something to do to help, and will also take part in most ideas of helping!

Mark Victor Young (markvictoryoung) | 19 comments I did a search on Google News about funding cuts to libraries and there are a bunch of hits in various libraries throughout B.C., but nothing in Ontario or other provinces that I could see. It sounds pretty dire. I used to work in the library here in London and I know we had problems back in the "Rae Days" when there were cuts to all public services. Hope things turn around for you. Maybe an online petition?
