Sam | 6 comments Hi!

I have been searching for this book for ages and can't remember the title or author. It was about a boy (13-15 years old) who becomes the helper of death/the reaper in order to save his grandma/aunt. I really hope you guys can help me! :)

Not sure what this is, but could it possibly be Mort? He gets hired by Death to be his apprentice. Funny book and one of Sir Terry's Disk World series.

There are a number of books out there with this trope. Can you remember anything else--the cover, where it was set, what the grandma/aunt did for a living? When did you red it? What was the feel--humourous like Mort, dark, Gothic, coming of age for the boy?

Sam | 6 comments No, it’s not Mort unfortunately, but thank you for thinking with me.

As far as I remember he lived with his grandma (his only family) and the story takes place in the real world. I think he was looking for a way to stop being the helper of death (but I’m not sure)

I think the title was “relikwieen van de dood” translate from dutch: “relics of death”. But everytime I try to look this title up, I only find Harry Potter

Thanks again for helping me

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Was the book originally written in dutch?
How many years ago did you read this?
Time period/location story takes place?
Part of a cover?
Anything about the cover?

message 5: by Sam (new) - added it

Sam | 6 comments Well, the language I read it was dutch, but weird dutch, like it was translated (that’s the reason I only read english books). I saw the book 5 years ago and it had a really cool cover, a bit vague (you couldn’t see the faces, more like he was turning around). The story takes places in the modern time

Sam, what's the genre or tone - sad/somber, funny at times, dark humor, mystery, horror, etc.? For young adults (teens) or older adults?

Is the boy's grandmother/aunt dying of an illness or old age?

How does the boy help death/grim reaper? (Spoilers are okay - just give us a clear warning before revealing a spoiler.)

Sam | 6 comments What I remember is that the boy tried to escape this ‘contract’, that he tried to go away from the reaper. I can’t remember is his grandma died.

I borrowed this book a couple years ago and couldn’t finish (I was really busy with school). So I took it back to the library, but I wasn’t smart enough to weite down the name or author. Normally our library has this system that it saves everybook you borrow, but 1 year ago they got a new system and all the information is lost :(

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5394 comments I'm glad you found it. What's the title?

message 13: by Sam (new) - added it

Sam | 6 comments It’s called ‘De ruiters van de Dood 1: Gabriel’ by Bianca Schepels, roughly translated it’s ‘The riders of Death 1: Gabriel’.
I just ordered a copy to read :D
