Here's the place for book recommendations for Category 2: a detective novel or true crime book.

Celine (goodreadscomcdb393) | 14 comments I read a ton of detective series so I have a lot of recommendations for those. For true crime I don't really have any, but 15-year-old me liked this one and it's about a case in Wichita Little Girl Fly Away (adult me doesn't remember much about it). For detective stories:
I'm reading Magpie Murders for #1 but it also works for this category and #3. I'm halfway through and really enjoying it.
Basically anything by Jo Nesbo
The Kinsey Milhone series by Sue Grafton
Dog on It by Spencer Quinn- The first in a series about a private detective told through the perspective of his partner and dog, Chet
A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas- the first in a series about a female Sherlock Holmes
The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling)
The Anatomist's Wife by Anna Lee Huber
Faceless Killers by Henning Mankell (Anything by him really)
The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz
The Flavia De Luce series by Alan Bradley

If you like your detective stories with a paranormal or sci-fi spin:
Rivers of London
Naked in Death
Storm Front

Lisa (lisamc) | 5 comments I just got Magpie Murders as a gift so I might use it for this one!

It's really good so far.

I also forgot to mention Case Histories or any of Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brody mysteries. I read them out of order and didn't have any problems following them.

Melissa | 1 comments I just finished Missing, Presumed by Susie Steiner. I really enjoyed it. If you like British crime dramas like Inspector Lewis, you will enjoy it.

Whitney | 2 comments Going to go for Mindhunter-Just binged the Netflix series, so I'd love to red the book behind it!
