so, someone told me about a play that they read that seemed interested. it was about some kind of slavery, to a degree, where a man takes this slave girl and turns her into a princess. that's seems to be all my friend can remember, but it was definitely a play.

I don't know, he didn't remember everything but it was realistic amd I do not know the time period. I just know a person who bought the girl turned her into a princess

That actually sounds like Pygmalion. It is a play, not a novel. It was written by George Bernard Shaw.
