Hélène | 343 comments 3. Visited the USA with When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon.

4. Visited Lesotho with Chaka by Thomas Mofolo. I read it for my random travel challenge. It was a tough read (lots of blood) but a very interesting one. The book is very well written, it gives you the impression that you listen to a live storyteller. And in a totally unexpected way, it made me want to re-read Goethe's Faust...

Hélène | 343 comments 5. Visited Bosnia with The Unquiet Dead by Ausma Zehanat Khan. The book is set in Canada, but actually deals with the genocide perpetrated in Bosnia between 1992 and 1995, so I count it for Bosnia.

Hi Helene, What do you think of it? I have it at home on my bookshelf, but did not dare to read, expecting it to be a very hard/intense reading. It is a unique collection of stories.

Hélène | 343 comments Hi Daina, I've also had this book on my TBR-list for ages and was too scared to read it… And then I had to read a book set in Burundi for my Random Travel Challenge and chose Small Country, a YA novel that also deals with the rwandan genocide. After that, it was the right time to tackle Machete Season. I had to skip two chapters in Machete Season, but found the end of Small Country more harrowing, because it presents the victims' point of view. But the two books complement each other well.

Thank you, Helene, it is good to know, I may get to it some time soon. One of my favorites about Rwanda was Philip Gourevich's "We wish to inform you..." - I found it very reflective and written with empathy. Happy readings!

Hélène | 343 comments Thank you, Daina! I've seen that you've got Belize on your list of random travels. I have it too and have no idea what to read. I may follow your suggestion and read Sastun: One Woman's Apprenticeship with a Maya Healer and Their Efforts to Save the Vani. Happy readings to you too!

Great, and we could revisit when we have both read it and see how we liked it after we read.
