My top 5:

THE HATE U GIVE by Angie Thomas – Everyone should read this.
(Teen, Fiction, Social & Family Issues, Prejudice & Racism, Violence)

SHRILL: NOTES FROM A LOUD WOMAN by Lindy West – Everyone should read this. I also did not realize I’d laugh so much while doing so.
(Non-Fiction, Essays, Feminist Theory, Memoir, Humor)

THE ENCHANTED by Rene Denfeld – Absolutely stunning read.
(Fiction, Magical Realism, Psychological Thrillers)

WE ARE NEVER MEETING IN REAL LIFE by Samatha Irby – I cackled all the way through this messily beautiful thread of how a woman became who she is, and the love she found along the way.
(Non-fiction, Humor, Essays, Love, Marriage)

TELL THE WOLVES I’M HOME by Carol Rifka Brunt – Beautiful and unputdownable.
(Fiction, Family Life, Coming of Age)

And since I read about 40 books this year, so many of them proving to be fantastic...

Here are the ones that put up a very good fight to make it into my final top 5:

THE SERPENT KING by Jeff Zentner
(Fiction, Teen, Coming of Age, Friendship, Physical & Emotional Abuse)

BEING FISHKILL by Ruth Lehrer
(Teen, YA Fiction, Social & Family Issues, Homelessness & Poverty, Alternative Family)

EMPRESS OF A THOUSAND SKIES by Rhoda Belleza
(Teen, YA Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Family)

ARISTOTLE & DANTE DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE by Benjamin Alire Saenz
(Teen, YA Fiction, Social & Family Issues, LGBTQ, Hispanic)

NOGGIN by John Corey Whaley
(Teen, Fiction, Parents, Friendship, Science Fiction)

Jessica (jessbwatson) | 1 comments I'm reading All the Ugly and Wonderful Things right now and just finished The Hate U Give. I'm in book heaven.

I have to think about my top five and come back.
