One of my reading goals for this year will be this year's 2018 Around the World goal as well.... reading Canada and Alaska! I've been stockpiling books from Canada and will be traveling to Alaska this summer, so this is where I'm shifting my focus. I'm hoping to read indigenous authors when I can.

I started the year with Two Old Women: An Alaskan Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival. This is a simply written, illustrated story from a first nations group that lives above the Arctic Circle! Children in Alaska read this story in school.

I need to read more from this region too. I went to a Melbourne Writers Festival panel discussion featuring Ivan Coyote, Elizabeth Hay and Sheila Watt-Cloutier and was fascinated by what each of them had to say about the environment, the remoteness, and the community.

Diane | 366 comments There are some great books from Canada. I will be reading quite a few from Canada this year, too, since we are going through the provinces in ATW80.

Alaska is beautiful, You will really enjoy it.
