Major bummer! Hopefully you got some money that you can spend on books.

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments Hi Hi all you beautiful book people!! I miss you all so much. I made out rather well this Christmas, actually! Each holiday season, my dad and I pilgrimage to Vromans in Pasadena after exchanging long book lists of what we want. We each pick out 3-4 on-list books and 1-2 off-list books. It's mostly predictable, but satisfying!)

I got:
1. Bannerless by Carrie Vaughn
2. Walkaway by Cory Doctorow
3. Artemis by Andy Weir
4. The Power by Naomi Alderman
5. Bookshops by Jorge Carrion (Dad's off-list choice - good one dad!)

Bought myself over the weekend...
6. Fun Home by Allison Bechtel (I know, I know... finally reading it!)
7. Pilgrim at Tinker Creek (also... i know, i know)

I gave my dad...
1. Exit West by Mohsin Hamid
2. Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward
3. Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil Degrasse Tyson
4. Avid Reader by Robert Gottlieb (My off-list choice)
5. Coach Wooden and Me by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (My off-list choice)

Happy New Year everyone! Missing you all, truly.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 200 comments First I got four great books from a bookish secret santa:
The Veins of the Ocean by Patricia Engel
Winter by Ali Smith
In the Shadow of the Banyan by Vaddey Ratner
Novel Without a Name by Dương Thu Hương

My in-laws almost always get me cookbooks and this year was no exception. My mother-in-law also got me a highly anticipated (for me) non-fiction title:
Bake (can't find it in the database)
Cast Iron Pies: 101 Delicious Pie Recipes for Your Cast-Iron Cookware
Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser

I had a bunch of Alaskan titles on my wishlist for Christmas as my husband and I will go there this summer, and he must have bought all of them:
Two Old Women: An Alaskan Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival
Passage to Juneau: A Sea and Its Meanings
The Snow Child
To The Bright Edge of the World
Alaska by James Michener
Coming Into the Country

My Mom sent me an Amazon giftcard too but I haven't spent it yet!! It's burning a hole in my pocket.

I read the first two. #1 was okay, kind of typical Backman but I didn't like it as much as his others. #2 was AH-MAY-ZING and I was sad when it ended, even though I will warn you, Charlie may grate on your nerves at first.

Gina (crazycatlady328) | 65 comments I got
Radical Acceptance: Embracing Your Life With the Heart of a Buddha
Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics
and a gift card to buy more. Not sure what I'm getting yet!

I bought myself, after developing a new fondness for cozy mysteries:
Aunt Dimity's Death
Agatha Raisin and the Terrible Tourist
Murder is Binding

Good to know Gina- I've finished Backman's, I enjoyed it. I'm about 100 pages into Alice Network and it's not pulling me in quite yet...

Kate | 269 comments I received a book from each of my sons (maybe there were hints involved): The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton The Miniaturist and Maurice by E.M. Forster Maurice. They are for book club and a read along. My brother in law gave me two mysteries A Midsummer's Equation by Keigo Higashino , A Midsummer's Equation and The Lost Boy by Camilla Läckberg The Lost Boy. I have read books by both of these authors and really enjoyed them. I am looking forward to reading my haul!

Many fans of this one. I borrowed it from the library and will keep it in mind for purchase. One of GR friends said her favorite Drummond recipes is Sunday Night Stew.
