Each month we will read a public domain book in a certain genre, about a particular subject, or by a specific author. Then report which book or story you've decided to read. Feel free to discuss what you're reading and the author's writing style. Don't forget to leave a review of your selected work.

In honor of the new year, this month's theme is an author's first published work.

I have found that it is interesting to see an author's technique change was they gain experience writing. Have you read a lot by a certain author? Have you sensed a difference in the style from book to book?

Please share you thoughts with us.

Happy New Year. I'm super excited to start. I'm going to read Mary Barton. I've read two books by Elizabeth Gaskell. And they are North and South and Wives and Daughters (her last published book).

Lanelle, what are you going to read?
