Ok, let's do it! I have a feeling I won't without a buddy read :)

There was a buddy read a couple years ago that we could use to help us set up a new one.

message 8: by Kay (new)

Kay Smeal | 99 comments I would read War and Peace with you guys!

Robert Strupp | 7 comments I'll say I'm going to read one 1,000 plus pager. I've got 3 or 4 on my shelves. Perhaps Dickens' 'Bleak House?'
January - none
February - none
March - none
April -

message 12: by Allison, Quest Hound (new)

Allison (rainy-day-reads) | 1298 comments Mod
That's a good choice, Robert. I hope you enjoy it!

message 13: by Jenny, Certified Bookworm (new)

Jenny Clark | 1510 comments Mod
Thanks Alli!
I hope you enjoy it Robert! That's on my TBR list as well, but is kinda intimidating... as are all the 1000+ pagers haha! Dickens is a great author!

message 14: by Lake (new)

Lake I have two on my TBR, so that's what I'm doing. Les Misérables and The Way of Kings. No promises I'll get to those, but the overall goal is two of these, haha!

message 15: by Allison, Quest Hound (new)

Allison (rainy-day-reads) | 1298 comments Mod
I hope you enjoy Way of Kings if you get to it, Lau. It's definitely long, but good.

message 16: by Dara (new)

Dara | 4 comments I want to finish IT (hopefully before the month is over)

message 17: by Michael (new)

Michael | 26 comments I'm doing a buddy read with my son's godmother of Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton (730 pp)...anyone else wanna join in?

message 18: by Allison, Quest Hound (new)

Allison (rainy-day-reads) | 1298 comments Mod
Hey Michael, you should ask this in the buddy read thread where more people might see it. (Scroll down on the group homepage to find the buddy reads folder.) Also remember to join the Doorstopper challenge, which is for books 600-1000 pgs.

Jenny Clark | 1510 comments Mod
Dara, I read IT last year, after seeing the new movie. King is such a good writer, isn't he?

message 20: by Ophelia (new)

Ophelia Gunn (opheliagunn) | 16 comments I'd like to finish at least six this year. I've just had a look at my bookcase and I've got 7 that fit this category. Haven't even looked at my ebooks yet.

The Way of Kings
Judas Unchained (if I manage to read Pandora's Star first)
Shōgun
Maia
Ash: A Secret History
War and Peace
A Suitable Boy
The Tale of Genji

message 21: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 221 comments I will go for 3 in this one although I might end up reading more.

1. Words of Radiance (1088 pages)
2. Memories of Ice (1180 pages)
3. Ulysses (1056 pages)

other possibilities

Les Misérables (1900+ pages)
A Suitable Boy (1454 pages)

message 22: by Anna (last edited Jan 21, 2018 05:57PM) (new)

Anna (kikina42) I really want to read the full Les Mis and/or It this year. However some other, academic options are possible.

Way of Kings is VERY long. Superb writing, but you better have a taste for fantasy fiction. I have the second volume of his series but I have no clue when I will ever get to it...

Isabel | 9 comments My goal is to read Gone with the Wind. I've managed to avoid it my entire life. It's 1037 pages.

Jackie, there's a group of us reading War & Peace this year if you want to join us. We're making pretty slow progress so far I think, but would love to have another reader join in.

Discussion threads start here: War & Peace Buddy Read.

1. It by Stephen King - Finished March 26th
2. The Stand by Stephen King ('Stephen King Fans' group read for April)
3. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson

and this next one is depending on me reading Deadhouse Gates but...

4. Memories of Ice by Steven Erikson

I hope you achieve your goal, Gareth.

message 32: by Gareth (new)

Gareth Townsend | 166 comments Thanks Rosemarie, I've almost finished It, the group read element of The Stand should push me through that in a month and then I have the rest of the year to get through the 45 hour audiobook - I've just taken up running so it can accompany me around the park.

I downgraded my goal to one shelf bender, and almost didn't make it at all. But fortunately Kingdom of Ash was 1066 pgs, and I just squeaked it through in time!

We won't mention my initial goal of reading War and Peace, which I have completely forgotten even exists...
