Thanks! It's been a bit of a luxury, making time for manga in my daily routine. Enjoy your own forays into the familiar!

Libraryjoy (silver_wings_42) | 92 comments Ooooh, From Far Away is one of my all-time favorites! I might have to go reread that one now, too!

message 10: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 18 comments I see you picked up The Girl From the Other Side, Siuil a Run. What were your thoughts on that series? I have it on hold, but it seems to be uber popular and taking a while.

Very atmospheric, with bold use of contrast. I've never been so conscious of the ink in another manga! So it has what I'd call an "artsy" vibe.

For lack of a better comparison, the plot has the same feel as stories using an amnesia trope. We don't know why things are the way they are, only that they must be wrong. Therefore the characters' main quest is for information, and the plot is carried along by each new discovery.

That said, the real draw of the story is the relationship between little Shiva and the genteel Outsider who is her self-appointed protector. I reviewed Volume 1 (I always leave a longer review on the first volume of a series). I need to order Volume 4!

message 12: by Jingraves (new)

Jingraves | 172 comments The story is so good though. I have one shelf I keep my favorites on. It's right between My Hero Academia and Re:Monster.

I think Forthright, is totally correct. I think it is written to be a little for a younger child to though. It is written with that separation. Shiva calls the deer person, Teacher. So when she is around its kind of like Tsumugi from Sweetness and Lighting; like your talking to a child. When they are not around its like adult problems. This one just has that supernatural spin to it.

Forthright . | 19 comments Still February and still in FANTASY mode. Quite a few of the series on my shelves fit somewhere in that category. Here are the next twenty titles for 2018...

Rasetsu, Vol. 6 by Chika Shiomi Rasetsu, Vol. 7 by Chika Shiomi Rasetsu, Vol. 8 by Chika Shiomi Rasetsu, Vol. 9 by Chika Shiomi Graineliers, Vol. 1 by Rihito Takarai
Trinity Blood, Vol. 12 by Kiyo Kyujyo Demon Diary, Volume 04 by Kara Demon Diary, Volume 05 by Kara Demon Diary, Volume 06 by Kara Demon Diary, Volume 07 by Kara
Gravitation, Volume 01 by Maki Murakami Gravitation, Volume 02 by Maki Murakami Naruto, Vol. 16 Eulogy (Naruto, #16) by Masashi Kishimoto Naruto, Vol. 17 Itachi's Power (Naruto Graphic Novel) by Masashi Kishimoto Naruto, Vol. 18 Tsunade's Choice (Naruto, #18) by Masashi Kishimoto
Gravitation, Volume 04 by Maki Murakami The Ancient Magus' Bride, Vol. 1 by Kore Yamazaki The Ancient Magus' Bride, Vol. 2 by Kore Yamazaki The Ancient Magus' Bride, Vol. 3 by Kore Yamazaki The Girl From the Other Side Siúil, a Rún Vol. 4 by Nagabe

And with March, the genre has flipped to MUSIC. I have a couple of series that fit that category, but I'll likely be mixing in some other stuff because I like to re-read the first volumes of a series when a new installment comes out. (And several are updating in March.)

I suspect that half the manga on my shelves fits into some kind of fantasy niche. It's my favorite genre to read and to write. ::twinkle::

Forthright . | 19 comments I tend to binge-read manga at erratic intervals. That's the best excuse I can offer for the vast gap between now and March. (That, and I was prepping a manuscript for publication over the summer.) So I've modified my reading goal ... from 300 to 200.
