Linda | 447 comments This is the fourth year I am participating in the Reading Challenge. Here's links to my previous challenges, all based on my age at the time:

2015 = 47 books
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

2016 = 48 books
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

2017 = 49 books
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

In 2018, I will try for 50 books. It is getting more difficult to keep up the momentum and still have other hobbies. Maybe next year I will go backwards. 😉

What I found last year, when I tried to lock myself into categories of books, and failed miserably, is that I HATE HATE HATE the reading agenda. It reminded me too much of teachers telling you what you must read. I guess I am a rebel at heart! 😎

I want to read what attracts me at the moment, not some arbitrary goal. So I might revisit some of my "goals" from last year, but for the most part, I'm gonna wing it and enjoy where the ride takes me. 🔰📚📖

Sounds good Linda! I do have a list because I really want to clear those last dust bunnies off my shelf. Hoping that 2019 will be (almost) list-less lol

Wishing you the best of luck with your goal & a very happy reading year!!

Excellent book. The main character got on my nerves half way through, but the mystery and suspense were great!

Not Perfect: A Novel
By: Elizabeth LaBan
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
This book WAS perfect! I couldn't put it down, although it pulled at my heart continuously. You can feel the anxiety of the mom trying to provide for the children after being abandoned by her husband. Moved me beyond tears, I felt her fears, confusion, stress, and at moments her surprising joy. A must read for the ladies out there, men might not find it as satisfying.

Second book I've read from this amazing author, the first being "Squall". Just as fast paced with developed main characters. Totally recommend if you can stand the subject.

Really enjoying this series. It does end abruptly, causing you to continue to the next book. I am pretty sure I have not gotten this far into the series when I began reading it years ago. On to the next one! 😀

Collaborating with the Enemy
By: Adam Kahane
(Audio Edition)
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
Really interesting concepts. A lot was said about how we can enemyfy other people and how we need to move into stretch collaboration. The third part of the book gave action plans for several weeks of moving/stretching ourselves and our personal beliefs.

Beautiful Familiar
By: Amy Cross
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
This was an interesting book, unlike the other books I've read from this author. The ending was not expected. Seemed like it was about being stuck unable to forgive yourself. Interesting.... I'd give it a 4 star, unlike most Amy Cross books I've read that have been 5+ stars.

Engagement: Transforming Difficult Relationships at Work
(Audio Edition)
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Very good book with really useful information toward change management and transforming difficult work relationships. They use the 4 Rules of Engagement - "SURE"
* Stop Look, and Learn
* Unhook (and teach your employees to unhook too)
* Revise the script
* Engage (your difficult person, instead of disengaging which is what you want to do -- move toward the difficult person rather than away from them)
* Evolve, or Exit (either FIX or FOLD).

Happy Mothers Day! My daughter got me Kindle Unlimited for Mom's Day. Excited to try some books out that I would not typically pay for. Ran across this book, all photos of people at fiddle festivals. All types of instruments, including my dulcimer favorites. Nice behind the scenes look at festival fun.

First Lessons (A Medieval Tale #1)
By: Lina J. Potter
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
(Kindle Unlimited)
This is a difficult book to rate. The writing is not good, a lot of rambling, and a main character who is annoying beyond belief. The location is supposed to be a fantasy land in Russia, but the descriptions lead me to keep imagining England. There is a lot of woman body shaming by the main character, however when she describes men she states she was raised to look beyond looks to the true self. The beginning is really unrealistic, the fact that she is not surprised where she ends up or mourns her prior life. However, the story itself is captivating, but still annoying. Especially since the main character seems to know everything about everything, truly unrealistic. But like an unrealistic, silly soap opera ... I am hooked. ☺

Could not put it down. Excellent suspense, who-done-it. Ending did not tie everything up, so many questions remain. I would have preferred to hear more from Flo, find out her perspective. The ending made me want to know what happens in the future. Note that this book uses a lot of English phrases, which might be a problem for some readers.

Favorite quote: "I still think Flo's a few cherries short of a trifle."
