This week’s topic is: A New Year

The rules are pretty loose. You could write a poem about anything that has to do with the subject/photo but it must relate to the topic somehow.

Title : Got To Be Better Than Last Year
Poet : Edward Davies

2017 was crap
Let’s just cut to the chase
The US got a President
With fake tan on his face

On a far more personal note
My job had been dissolved
I got another job quite quick
That wasn’t too involved

But then I lost that job as well
Cos the guy I replaced
Decided to come back to work
That really was a waste

And then to really top it off
My father passed away
Less than a week to celebrate
Before our Christmas day

So fingers crossed the coming year
Is better than the last
And that all of the crappy things
Are left way in the past

So 2018 will be good
We can but only hope
Cos if they’re worse, believe you me,
I just don’t think we’ll cope.

I keep hoping that Edward's poem this week is fiction, but it most likely isn't. If that's the case, then may 2018 treat you better, my friend.

Yep. I went through four jobs by April last year, and my dad died just before Christmas (ho ho ho). And my wife had to leave her last job too because it was an absolute nightmare. Now I've got to travel on my own from NZ to UK for a funeral. Fun and games, G-Man.

That's a lot of depressing stuff to happen in 2017. Poor Davies clan. :(

What is a New Year?

A brand new day, a bright future
All can be in a new year
Whether it's a hope, yearning, to expect
over a new week that is dear
It doesn't have to have been a full time passed
like '17 to '18
But like a new beginning for the person's quest
That is soon to be seen.
