Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 8060 comments Here are the categories:

Top Mystery/Thriller Books (1-10)
Top Authors (1-5)
Top Books (1-5) any genre
Top Series (1-5)
Best "New to Me" Author (1)
Bottom of the Barrel Books (up to 5)

Let the posting begin!

Please put all your picks in one post, and please put them in this topic so I don't miss them. If you forget something you can edit your original post, just put EDITED before your addition so I know to go back and add it.

Please list the full name, be it book title, author name, or series character. This will save me time having to google names in order to match up everyone’s picks.

You don't have to list in all categories, and you don't have to post the maximum in each categories. Just please don't go over the max. Otherwise I will leave off the ones listed over the max indicated.

After Jan. 9 I will begin compiling everyone's lists and will aim to post the top picks in each category by the 16th.

If you want inspiration, you can see our Best of 2016 results in this folder in January.

Can't wait to see what everyone selects! Questions? You can post them here, and either Ann or I will answer.

Absolutely, Maureen! Congrats on being the first to post. Some interesting choices that I will have to investigate. And yes, it is year read, not published.

Ann (annrumsey) | 14623 comments Thanks Carol! I'm looking forward to refining my lists soon; and the more the merrier Maureen; new book recommendations are always a treat!

message 5: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Carden | 139 comments I absolutely can not recommend my top books and authors enough. These are kick-ass women characters and writers. A bit to the dark side.

message 6: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 14623 comments Maureen: I have the Kelley Armstrong book, Bitten, in my audible “to be listened to” pile and have heard it is a good series. The others look interesting too. I’m trying not to start too many new series as I have so many good ones going.

I don't bother to list those in my journal; if I am not enjoying a book I usually won't finish it.

I did pick up on several new authors this year and made some progress on series books

message 9: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 14623 comments Barry: Your lists are usually stellar. I don't know how you cull yours down but it must be hard. I try to prepare for the compilation all year long with my number rankings and then just go with it at the end of the year.

I also love Spencer-Fleming, but felt that to put her on my list, she would actually have to write a book.

I noticed you listed The Little Drummer Girl. This is in my top five ever favorite book. I reread it every five years or so.

I loved Bitten. I read most of Armstrong's books after discovering her Duncan series. The Duncan series is crime fiction, most of her other books are urban paranormal or world building. Syfy made a TV series-now available on Netflix-from Bitten. First time I have ever binge watched anything.

message 20: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 14623 comments Maureen: good to know. I like all three types! I see you recommended the first Duncan book, City of the Lost, I'll try to get to it soon!
