I just realized that I am not helping my TBR whittle down when I have 3 "on holds" at library and one new purchase. 4 out of 9 books aren't on my TBR.
I'm not sure what my plans are for next month. We may have a lot going on in real life, so my reading may slow a bit. I'm currently reading Alice for next month's monthly theme to make sure I'm ready to discuss it.Books I plan to read:

There is no hurry though - they aren't going anywhere. :0)
That's a good theory, Cherie. Add to that the notion that familiarity breeds contempt. I have all my books listed in order of when I purchased them. Over time, I keep seeing them over and over, and now I'm sick of them. I might have to rethink my strategy. Maybe I'll start using a randomizer. Plug in the number of books I have and let the randomizer pick my next book.
That's what I do too, Cherie. Always read the library books first because they have to go back. The others will always be there when I'm ready.
Janice- I think what you say about seeing them over and over has a lot of merit. I think they become too familiar. Something new always sounds or looks better. Kind of like the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. There is always that hope too, that one you already own will be just right for the new challenge, so it is okay to save it. I'm sure that I could not be so dedicated to read them in the order that I bought them, if I tracked mine that way. I add them to my book list by title, author and number of pages. My list is in alphabetical order by title and is divided by books in print, books on my Nook, books on AmyKs Kindle ( because we share) and Audible books. I try to remember to look up setting, genre, relevant cover information and whatever has come up in past challenges as "important" info and add them to the list on the next line for each book. I usually note the series name and number too. When I read one, I change the font color to blue and when I am done, I used to change them to red. I kept them on the spread sheet for the year, and each New Year, I copied the list and renamed it. Then I removed all the red titles. This year, as soon as they are read, I'm removing them. The darn list was/is just too long. I have a few series lists to track what needs to be read next, but not many . I also used to have a section for library books that I had read during the year, but decided that I was demented to track them. I can use my list to gopher for words in titles and colors and countries and genre - to a degree. The page counts help me gopher for shorter books for topplers.
The book that I want off of my list this year is The Dinner . I'm sick of looking at it. It IS on my ZZ Challenge!
Your spreadsheet is more detailed than mine. I have two tabs "books" and "audiobooks". When I acquire a book, I copy a link like The Dinner to the bottom of my list. I have started adding "kindle" "ibook" or other notes. When I read a book, I just delete the row. When I look at my list, the first book I see is Mystery, and I groan. I'm really not in the mood for it right now.
How do you select which book you're going to read next? I did the "in order of purchase" just to get those old books read and dealt with.
Wow, you guys are very organised! When I get a new book I put it into GR and then just read what I fancy - except since I've joined this group it's about 60% challenges/group reads.

I usually manage read a few books each month, both print and ebooks that are not for a challenge, but I have to keep reviewing the lists to see what is available.
I read quite a bit out of order because of challenges, but I'm always trying to whittle down those older books.
I guess I could add a date purchased to my list, but I think that would make me feel more out of control on what to read except for challenges "to read the oldest book on your list". ;o)I think the book I am currently reading Blue Monday by Nicci Frenchis going to be a new series add for me. I really like the way the story has built up and the way the characters have been marched out.
Nicci French is (are) good writers. I'd like to read that series myself. My mam says it is good.My oldest book, in GR terms is The Great Gatsby which I have to read soon!

Mighty plans. I just don't seem to be able to read as much as I used to now. So planning 3 books, 4 max is all I can do at the moment. And sometimes that doesn't go according to plan.
I go through phases with reading. These days I am trying to watch a bit more TV or netflix wean myself off of books lol3 of 4 books is a lot in most peoples terms - it's just that you have surrounded yourself with addicts 😉
I never plan. I read what come in on hold first. I guess I am the mercy of my library's computr
There couldn't have been a better example of WAYLAID PLANS than the month of February! So those books are showing up again here. Still I do consider it a successful month. I read a lot of Zodiac books during the Toppler.There is NOOOO Way all of these books will be read in March, however many are here from the library as an overflow from Toppler gophering!

Wow, I can't plan my reads. I read on what I am in the mood for, sometimes a mystery, sometimes fantasy, sometimes YA, but rarely romance. Right now I am reading a book on religion, Righteous Warriors: Lessons from the War Chapters in the Book of Mormon and a villain re-telling, The Beast Within: A Tale of Beauty's Prince. And then I'll be ready to go back to a chick-lit, currently The Life List.
Grumble, mumble.... I haven't figured out what I'm reading for June.Heather, I do plan so that I can fit in all the challenges and activities. It's kind of addictive.
For me there is nothing worse than finishing a book and not having another at hand. AS I am limited to digital format this does need a littlr thinking ahead! But than, I am a planner at heart - I'd probably make my lists anyway lol

I don't know if I would call it "planning" exactly! Especially when a Toppler looms in the background.
I plan my Group Read and Monthly Challenge.
Then I "plan" that the books that I have on hand fit the Toppler.
Then I "plan" on trying to read all the books that I ordered to over-compensate FOR the Toppler but didn't USE for the Toppler!☻
I plan to read double the amount of books I'm capable of. lolI'm not sure how much planning I'll do for June. I feel like the month may be half over before I have the time to plan it! Aside from the toppler, I'm just hoping to read something for the monthly challenge and theme.

LOL, I guess I should clarify a little. I always 'plan' to read a lot. I go to the library or sit and browse Amazon, pick out books and then the 6-7 (or more) I have chosen will sit on the end of my counter and try to 'lure' me away from doing domestic chores. Then time passes, I have bought or borrowed a few more and the stack gets bigger on the counter -- then I realize that they are all do back at the library -- OH MY --- so I have to return them. BUT THEN, there is that one cover that catches my attention and I'm off again picking up books and taking them home...….
