Fiction book for January 2018

Heather Dillard | 17 comments I really liked this book! It’s really short (I read it in 2 evenings)...a book of poems from the perspective of an 11-year old boy in foster care. It’s realistic and makes you think, but also challenges you to see the blessings in little things.

This book presents the poems in two ways: 1) the main character, Lonnie, writes different types of poems for class and 2) His story is explained as he goes through the year. I found it catching me off guard at times because all of a sudden, after a poem about a classmate, it would zoom in to explain about an accident with his family.
It’s a short read that I would recommend to readers who enjoy Love that Dog, by Sharon Creech.
