━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ hasani blakesley
x i x ; earth class ; trainee ; male

×   Hasani has the kind of smooth dark skin that entrances. The backs of his hands have the rich tone of soil that has been freshly watered by the rain. His palms are a startlingly pastel pink, marked with the thick grooves that line every human hand. With his muscle, he looks much older than just nineteen; with his 5’11” height, he looks to be around his early twenties. It was a hassle when he was seventeen and all sorts of older men and women began to approach him. He has become all the more sensitive to affairs of romance relating to himself since then. Sensitive enough to lash out with harsh words and deep blushes that reach his ears and neck.

With dark-brown eyes, many people often see a threat or challenge in his eye contact. He never threatens with the intention to do ill, although he threatens people all the time if he feels embarrassed, which—saddening him the most about his life—is almost all the time. He’s very easily embarrassed by the tiniest details: how he slices his pizza into small pieces, how he always splits a donut in half, how he always removes the icing off his cupcakes. He never likes to have anything on his face but his dog’s saliva. Yif will always be a special exception. No one else and nothing else is allowed to be on his face. Yes, even other people’s faces cannot be on his face. Every time someone else had tried to kiss him without his permission—multiple times in the horrible times of his childhood—he had slapped them away and then—instead of challenging them to a fight as he would now if anyone were not intimidated by his self-defensive glare—he ran away.

×   Despite his harsh glares and lack of facial expression when he isn’t angry, Hasani is infinitely gentle in his touches. His family has gifted him with a love of giving and receiving touch, so physical contact communicates more to him than any language, any music, any art. He understands most of his friends through slaps on the back—approval—and physical fights, which is how he makes most of his friends in the first place. But he becomes a mother to his little sister at home, who is fifteen and begging to be spoiled, although he always does so begrudgingly and at his parents’ wishes. All his actions are for his family. Even though Hasani loves training now, he used to hate it and the idea of it. The only reason he has remained in training instead of escaping or doing something reckless is because his family is proud of him for possessing an affinity for earth, what raises life and splits it apart.

×   Before all this, he had been dreading his fifth birthday. Before all this, he hadn’t wanted an affinity for anything but what was familiar. What has remained the same, however, despite his parents' happiness about his affinity, is that he does not want to become Protector.

❝there's enough violence in the trials, we need guidance for after❞

Mason Williams is anything but a fighter. He's a known seeker
of knowledge in the classroom and with his peers. Grounded
and curious, Mason seems to be wiser than his actual age
indicates. He believes there is enough pig-headedness with
the trainees and with that, comes the ignorant tendency for
violence. What's worse, he does not have much confidence
in his peers that they have the wisdom to be a good protector
and council member nor have the humility to listen to those
with. Due to his beliefs, he tends to be a bit secretive which
makes him a good secret keeper as well as an advisor.

There is no scarring backstory. No very prominent family that
he has to keep the ideals of. In fact, the only thing that really
separates him from others is the normality. His mother had the
same affinity and had returned to have a family back in the
normal part of the world. And thus, Mason has no respect for
those who try to exercise their power or uniqueness in his class.
Due to his mother's wishes, he realizes contesting in the trials is
reckless and not suited for one of his nature - something that
he really did not need to be told.

DAENG CHITHIPKUL ──────────── twenty, earth class, male

So maybe Day is really really bad at introspection, and maybe he's outright awful at telling the truth when he's not okay — but he's alive, and he's getting pretty good with his affinity. It's not the best way of dealing with his problems, sure, but it's the only way that he knows. And it's easier to deal with them alone, without people worrying and asking if he's okay.

He doesn't know what it is that's actually wrong with him. He just knows that sometimes he finds it hard to think straight, can't motivate himself and feels exhausted to the point of nearly collapsing. But it's not sleep deprivation, it's not any physical cause — and Day may excel in all his classes, but he's never been very knowledgeable about any sort of medical conditions, neither mental nor physical. And there's no way he'd ask for help. He doesn't want to burden other people with his problems.

Day doesn't want to become the Protector. He can't fathom the idea of killing, and he hates being in the spotlight. He's not convincing or cunning enough to win without deaths, and even if he was there are far better candidates — in his eyes.

Nuri has always been powerful. When his affinity first presented itself, he caused a 4.3 magnitude earthquake that reached as far as half a block from his house. Ever since that day, he's done his utmost to have perfect control over his ability, and ever since Councilman Park's Trials, he's wanted to be the Protector, to win the Trials. The principle of manipulating minerals in a person's body in order to defeat them has always been fascinating to him, particularly in terms of the medical applications it has. Being able to clot blood, or to fix iron deficiencies — there are many applications of it that Nuri believes are grounds enough to legalise the principle.

One thing Nuri is bad at is stopping and thinking. While he can think strategically, he's not so good at understanding his emotions, or at empathising. If he was, he might have realised that the dream he had when he was fifteen is no longer necessarily his true interest. Because for all his determination and studying to be chosen for the Trials, Nuri always seems to come back to the medical side of things. And if he really thought about it, he might realise that he's never really idolised Councilman Park for his becoming Protector, but for the principle he came up with and what it could potentially do for people.
