Tammy Davis (portia2012) | 118 comments I am going to strive for 25 books for 2018. I think I made my goal too high 2017, so cutting it in half for next year.

Tammy Davis (portia2012) | 118 comments This book was centered around an extremely abusive household. A typical family dynamic with the father Randall, the mother whose name I believe was Betty, and their three daughters Raine, Lilly and Miranda I believe was the third child. The story follows them from the time their mother decides to leave the father and move in with Raine. From that point the story goes back to when they were growing up and the life they are living now. Raine seems to have a multiple personality from the abuse she grew up with. The other two sisters seem to have sexual and relationship issues. Lilly ends up cheating on her husband and gets pregnant, and Miranda seems to have fallen in love with a porn director.

During the time the mother leaves her husband, the girls are remembering the physical and sexual abuse. Raine seems to be the one having the hardest time, and plots to kill first her father, and eventually the mother. She almost gets away with her father until her mother decides to go back to her husband, and puts out a missing police report. Things are not looking good for Raine. Betty discovers after she finds out he is dead, that he has a secret bank account. Thinking that he had set aside some financial help, she obtains the required death certificate. Only to find out that he has took some pictures of him sexually abusing several girls. Raine is called to the family home to view these photos, and that is where she snaps again. Her multiple comes out one last time to finish off what she planned to do. Raine might have got away with it if her two sisters had not discovered her back and horrible scratches.

I rated this book a five because it is a good read. But forewarning, it is graphic and triggering. Not a good book for a child or someone still dealing with childhood trauma.

Tammy Davis (portia2012) | 118 comments This small but extremely captivating set of short stories is a good one to read on a rainy day. It starts out with a tale about a young girl and her family moving to a town that has vampires terrifying the people there. It ends with a story about a cursed diamond that is discovered by a sister and brother; they end up being trapped inside the diamond.

My favorite one though was about a older gentleman who becomes young again thanks to his former neighbor's taking care of the plant.

I gave it four stars because while it is a good read, it is rather short, and did not quite keep my attention long enough. It became a little confusing at parts because there was not much to separate one story from the other.

Other than that, it is a nice short stories book that will give you goosebumps.

Tammy Davis (portia2012) | 118 comments OMG, what can I say about this book? Where do I even start? It is such an amazing read.

The Sandman is about a dream god named Somnus who falls in love with this woman named Rachel. At first, it seems like she is just an ordinary lady, but you soon discover that she has the ability to see things that others cannot see. After this demon like creature keeps invading her dreams, Somnus and his family decide to find out who she really is, and he takes her to the family house in Los Angeles, where they put her under and discover she has bloodlines to Hades.

Throughout the rest of the book it keeps you in suspense what will happen when she discovers how to control her abilities, and also as she falls in love with Somnus and his family. What would she be willing to risk for the man and family she loves? Can good triumph over evil? Find out in this amazing book.

This book has so many emotions throughout it. A lot of beauty, but also sadness. It is about a girl name Lorelei who loses her parents as a child when they are murdered. She is raised in the home of Luca, whom she believes was a trusted family. Only to discover years later that he was the one who had her family killed.

Lorelei has an unusual gift of being able to pull the life out of people. When she discovers what Luca did, she takes his life. Lorelei and Luca's maid runs away to Seattle where they try to start a whole new life. She enrolls in college, and starts to make new friends. Upon first starting college she meets Killian, a boy she has dreamed about all of her life. Things get weird and she begins to think Killian is the one trying to hurt her. She becomes panic and tries to run away, but Killian follows her, and explains things to her.

She decides to go home and explain what happened to Camilla, but while she was gone Luca has paid a visit and hurt Camilla. Lorelei knows it is time to stop Luci, so she becomes a ghost, and then comes back long enough to finish Luca once and for all.

A very sad, but beautiful ending...
