Emelia Hi !

(Hope I am doing this right)

So glad I found this group ! I am desperately seeking a book I read about 15 years ago - I know, that's a long time ago - here are the details;

- Cover: from what I can remember the cover is light yellow and white
with an old woman on the front trudging through snow with red
gum boots boots on, sack of bird seed in hand, going towards a
platform bird feeder.

-Title: I Think it has the word Nightingale in it, but memory is shady lol

- About; Story is about an old woman who feeds birds and a young girl
(maybe 15 years old?) who meets her; asking the old woman
why she constantly feeds the birds. Old woman explains that
if she does not feed the birds in winter, they will freeze to death.
Young girl finds a bird nest with a frozen bird in it. Befriends
old woman. Book talks about their lives and their relationship.

It is such a charming book ! I know it sounds boring but it really is good.
I am trying to find the title so I can buy the book to give to my Goddaughter. It is a very moving book about the relationship between a lonely old woman and the girl. Has life stories in it, and a lot of bird information. As I said I think the word Nightingale is in the title, however, it has been a long time ago, sorry. But may have Bird(s) in the title. The cover may have changed with the years, but it is what I remember.

I would be so grateful for any help. The book had an impact on me personally and because of the book, I became an avid bird-er and bird/nature photographer. My Goddaughter has a connection with birds and has Crows drop off presents to her ! She feeds birds and draws them as well, so I thought this would be a perfect book for her !

Thank you again, ahead of time, for any help.
If I didn't post correctly, please forgive me, I'm new lol

Emelia, you did very well. Was the book fiction or non-fiction, do you remember? And it does sound interesting.

Please note you can "bump" your thread/topic (add a new comment) every 30+ days because this group is so large -- or sooner if you remember more information which you can add at any time.

Here are tips for posting a book request which can help people find your book faster -- https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

For example, if you edit your topic header and more plot details to it, someone may be more likely to recognize your book.

Thank you for the help Kris!
I know I put the details in the body and not the header.
Can I change it?
What is the best things to put in the header?
Don't mean to sound dumb lol....this is my first go at doing this !

Good question. You can add plot details and genre to the topic header by clicking the small "edit" link beside the header -- using the desktop website, not the mobile app. No spoilers in the header, please.

Tab (tabbrown) | 4967 comments Was this a picture book or chapter book?
For children, teens, or adults?
Part of a series?
Time period/location story takes place?

Here's a great Birds list from Listopia that should be helpful;

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...

There were several other lists if this one doesn't have your book.

Good luck!

Up at the top of the page where you see 'Search Books' I typed in Nightingale, since you said that word might have been in the title.

Anyway, there are over 100 pages of books listed and I've been looking for the cover you described with the lady with red boots. If you get desperate you might want to scan a few pages to see if you recognize the cover.

Now I want to read this book :D

``Laurie (laurielynette) | 1039 comments Don't give up just yet Emelia. Someone should eventually remember reading this book but it might take more time.
If you can remember anything else about the book please let us know. Hang in there :D

Have you checked all the Birds lists at Listopia?

Emelia, please note that you can bump your thread every 30 days (but not more often) simply because the group is so large. If you remember new information about the book, you can of course add that at any time.
