Wickedpen | 48 comments Greetings. I was burned by Amazon dropping their last site, so it's taken me a while to get up the will to do this again. So forgive my newbishness. :)

I read the info on covers, and editing them - but I've run into a few books so far that have the right isbn (both), but never had a cover attached.

So I don't wish to "replace" a cover, but to give the book the cover, as it doesn't have one. It seems weird to add a dummy entry just to get the cover.

Here is the most recent example:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

And here is the cover: https://1drv.ms/i/s!AskkhqeGfnlGpGjUE...

So before I go running about filling the database with "dummies" - I thought I'd check in.

T.I.A.

Abcdarian | 19392 comments Posting here is exactly the way to go; librarians can add the covers. However, we need to know where the cover came from and be sure that the ISBNs match. I added the cover from Amazon to the book you linked, as I didn't know the source of your picture. Here are the facts on where we can and can't get images: https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/2...

We appreciate you not adding unnecessary copies. :-)

Wickedpen | 48 comments Wonderful! Thank you so much. I found it on Abe Books, so that is alright, and I was very careful to match both ISBNs before posting.

Last question - do you prefer a new topic for every cover request, or would it be easier to have me just add here? Not that I'm anticipating a flood of requests, but my library is rather... ah... eld. Yes, that sounds romantic: eld. ~.^

Wickedpen | 48 comments What of bindings?

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9...

This was hardcover. I still have it. It's listed as Binding Unknown.

Unfortunately, at this time, my books are packed. So I cannot verify the ISBN right now.

Sandra | 23787 comments Definitely need to confirm the isbn before making any changes, Wickedpen.

message 6: by Wickedpen (new)

Wickedpen | 48 comments Well, in a year or so then. I need to find work first, so I can rent a space large enough to pull my things from storage.

Thank you, Sandra. I look forward to updating this.

Arenda | 20202 comments For isbn 9780671254155, I've reverted a previous change, back to hardcover. Amazon also has hardcover for this isbn.

message 8: by Wickedpen (new)

Wickedpen | 48 comments Thank you, Arenda. My inner stickler is soothed and my childhood memories are intact. My Mom looked askance at this book, but bought it for me on the merit that if S&S would publish it, there must be value.

It is a nicely written book. :)

Wickedpen | 48 comments Next challenge - I'm trying to enter the book I read

https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Book...

But there is a reprint copy (different background coloring/year) using the ISBNs. The actual ISBN for that cover and year is here:

https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Book...

I can't add mine until the latter is corrected.

Whichever edition gets entered into GRs first, with that ISBN, keeps it and we add ACEs (Alt Cover Editions) for any other editions using the same ISBN. Even if its a older edition. (Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) are an exception)

Wickedpen | 48 comments But they don't use the same ISBN. The person that attached the cover to that ISBN has the wrong cover and the wrong publication date for that ISBN.

The fact that another edition with the same cover and different ISBN exists does not prove that this ISBN doesn't also have that cover. Plenty of books get reprinted with new ISBN and identical cover (as they do with the same ISBN and new cover)

I have added your edition here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Please use the "switch to this edition" link to avoid shelving a duplicate.

Sorry about that. I guess I didn't fully understand what you were trying to describe.

That's terrible! Why do they do that?!? Thank you for educating me, I had no idea.

My thanks also for you adding the one I need... well, want. I suppose life would go on if I couldn't add it. >.<

Happy holidays to you all!
