Mj Here's 2 links to the 2018 RBC Taylor Long List of 10 books from 153 books submitted that should interest non-fiction afionados.

The first link has book cover pictures as well as some terrific jury citations on each of the 10 books to pique your interest. The second link is the original news release.

The short list of 5 will be announced on January 10, 2018 and the winner on February 26, 2018.

Seven Fallen Feathers - not only an eye opening account that everyone should read but the winner of this prize today!!!

Shannon White | 244 comments I'm so happy this book won!

It was fabulous and really would have made a wonderful Canada Reads selection. It is a shame, politics eliminated it from moving on, IMHO.

Wanda | 568 comments I truly believed this book to be a clear cut award winner and that it should be on everyone's shelf to read! Well deserved win for author Tanya Talaga. Bittersweet for the families for the tragic losses they all have experienced. For if it were not for their losses there would not be a need for her story. My heart holds much hope for future truth, reconciliation and understanding.

Interesting list. I read an excerpt of The Mosquito: A Human History of Our Deadliest Predator and it was fascinating.

did we know that this award has been discontinued? I was searching to see if there was an update on books for the next round and found this:

Wanda | 568 comments @Susan, I do think I recall hearing the announcement that the Taylor Prize was ending. Something to the effect that it had fulfilled what it had set out to do over it's 20 years span. Its a bummer to see these important funding opportunities and honors go for authors and creative writers.

agreed! 20 years is a lot of support so hopefully something new will come out of this at some point.
