You never shared your opinions... this was the newest book when I started this Buddy Read, and I've been waiting to read the newest one until I finished the re-read... which was hard, since this book has a bit of a cliffhanger... but really, this Buddy Read and the things we've discussed have actually drained some of my love for the series, so reading the newest book hasn't been as pressing as it once was...

Oh you're right! I totally forgot to post once I finished and now, over a week later, I forgot most of my complaints. I know a big one was the emotional reactions to stuff. Or rather, the lack of emotion. This was a very dramatic, emotion filled book. (view spoiler)[1) I don't think so much drama belongs in the series. I don't personally think Jodi Taylor is good at it. Evidenced by 2) The characters reactions. Your loved one dies, everything is going to shit. So what do you do? Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and give a presentation about some historical mission you're supposed to be going on. I mean, wtf St. Mary's! The employee count isn't so high. When a tragedy happens, it effects everyone. You'd think they'd scrap the missions for at least a few weeks. Give people time to heal. Not go on one the next day and expect the most effected people to give no nonsense work presentations. It was just really hard to bounce from caring about what was happening to shutting yourself off to care about the history. It wasn't feasible to do as a reader, taking me totally out of the story, let alone as someone involved in the story, making it all very unbelievable. Even the Matthew situation. She lost her baby. Yes she gained an 8 year old boy, but she lost her baby. The plans she had for her future and his upbringing were shattered. It's a time of grieving. She bounced back from all that remarkably well. (hide spoiler)] I just thought JT was trying to tackle something she's not good at and has no basis doing.

Yea... I agree... I kinda rolled with it my first time, but this time I was more critial... just like how (view spoiler)[they figured out how to hunt Clive Ronan in this book had me questioning why the Time Police never tried that in the previous 4 books this time round...

I read some reviews of the next/newest book, and it sounds like things just return to normal... and even Markham comments on how they are perpetually trying and failing to capture Clive Ronan... at this point it's kind of like the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote... it's kind of ridiculous...

I tend to prefer series with a plan, and this one has been showing itself to be one I let slide because I didn't have much to compare it to (and I love time travel)... (hide spoiler)]

If you want something light you don't need to think too hard about, this series is perfect. Which is why all the drama doesn't fit. She doesn't plan, foreshadow, or prethink her books. Her books write like a 70s comedy series. So when she starts trying to turn it into a drama series, it doesn't fit and makes no sense. That's how you jump the shark and lose your audience. Stick to what you're good at.
