In the Notebooks or one of the biographies I read something that suggests that she was particularly proud of the Labours of Hercules. She was keen to have her stories around a theme, and was annoyed when one of the titles was changed in a way that did not reflect the theme.

I listened to the audiobook on this. Well done. While none of the short stories was outstanding, I thought all the stories were GOOD, so gave it 4 stars. Something I will likely listen to again in the future.Susan, you are much like my late sister and Mom. For some reason, they just don't get into short stories. My other sister and I enjoy often reading short stories - when everything is really busy, I can still read/hear ONE story. In fact, one of my personal challenges for 2018 is to read a short story a day.
That sounds like an excellent challenge, Stephanie. I often prefer short stories which are not mysteries and would certainly like to read more by W. Somerset Maugham. having really enjoyed, Rain this year. However, if I do read anything short, they need to be essays, rather than stories.
